This could be a driver issue or an external case issue,

most drivers are preloaded into the OS and are subject to normal wear, internet activity and software upgrades and new softwares should all require a level of understanding before fine tuning any compnents on a system, reason being if you tune the wrong things and in the wrong manner then you are inviting certain trouble, softwares have a tendancy to conflict with eachother at times, normally when you need it to work.lol.

I have come across the later ,the hard drive cases from He)).
I have seen 1 external drive case fail the drive 3 times and lost huge amounts of personal data, each time,
I had the drive extracted and that cost heaps more than the drive was worth,
so the supplier would honor the drives warrantee, yeah,
but not the contents we were trying to save them, whoopie.
I didn't really want to throw them in the bin,

It sounds like the drive is failing. So you will need data recovery services.

A remote service is http://FreeDataRecovery.us

Hi, My Seagate 80GB IDE HDD is not detected in BIOS. But the drive is spinning. Is there any way I can recover my data?

If data in your hard drive is really important to you, try to look for a similar model hard drive. Then swap the logic board of the good hard drive with the defective hard drive. If the cause of problem is the logic board, then your hard drive should work by now. If you are not that technical, you can ask a technician to do this for you. You can buy a second hand hard disk for a few bucks at ebay.

My seagate momentus 5400.2 external hard disk can't be detected by any computer. doesnt show up in the device manager, or anything. the light is on, for some reason, sometimes it blinks red/green,...

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

My Seagate Momentus 5400.3 80GB is not getting detected and message pop up as USB not recogonized. Kindly do the needful

The disk-drive inside the enclosure is problematic.
Open the enclosure, to get the model-number and serial-number from the label on the disk-drive.
Then, access Seagate's web-site, to check the warranty-status of the drive. If the warranty still is valid, they will replace it, at minimal cost to you.
If the warranty has expired, purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and transplant it into the enclosure, to "resuscitate" your device.

Hi there... suddenly my USB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 External Harddrive is not working any more... unknown device is the message of windows (WINDOWS 7)! The mistake code is Nr. 43! Could you please help...

Check that the power-brick is supplying power to the disk-drive.

Check that the "data" cable between the computer and the device is tightly connected, at both ends. Try a different cable.

Disassemble the casing, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in some desktop computer. If it is detected, then it is the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, inside the case, which has failed.

Search online for a professional "data recovery service".
For a large fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy all your files to a working disk-drive.

Unless it's windows 98 you don't need a driver. If your computer can't see it, it's probably broken. Try plugging it in to another computer and see if it can see it

My external hard drive is unreadable

Does you drive make any sounds like these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it. If not - try to remove the drive from USB casing and connect it directly to your PC or put into another USB enclosure. This should help if the problem is with the enclosure itself and not with the drive.
