SOURCE: My Rinnai Spectrum 28 Gas

Most of these brands of heaters do not last more than 300 hours. if found to be operating fine most of the time I have found faulty gas regulators attached to the feed line to the valve causing the shutdown.

SOURCE: My Rinnai Spectrum 28 Gas

Other than a dust issue (clogged filter)., there are several things that could cause the unit to automatically shut OFF.

  • It's reached the temperature you have it set for and it automatically cycles to OFF.
  • The unit is overheating and the heater's overload switch is shutting it OFF.
  • The Flue may be clogged or partially clogged.
  • The flame failure device is faulty and needs to be cleaned or replaced
  • Low gas pressure.

SOURCE: Hi my Rinnai spectrum 28 gas heater only burns on

If this is occurring on windy days, a back draft in the flue termination is blowing the pilot out. When this happens ,everything shuts down, as it should. If it occurs under all weather conditions, the air filter may need cleaning. Also, be sure that there are no obstructions blocking the air louvers on the front of the heater.

To assist you further, I have included a link to the owner's Manual for your model, in case you have misplaced yours. You may download and print this manual if you like.

How to tune a 2547 for broadband 25-28 Mhz. Normal alignment causes transmitter power to fall rapidly about 150khz above ch. 40

That is normal. It all depends which end of that spectrum you wish to operate, and then align the rig accordingly. About the best you can do for both fringe lower and fringe upper freq coverage at the same time, is to perform the alignment procedure around 27.000HMz, and hope for the best . The radio's design simply isn't broadbanded enough to give optimum performance on the spectrum edges. I always aligned these RCI's and Unidens on the owner's primary frequency and let the chips fall where they may.

Rinnai R85 starts to warm then stops and blinks 61??

I went to the Rinnai website and this is what I found for error code 61.
Error Code 61 Problem: Fan failure
Solution: Measure the resistance on the fan motor, check the damaged or loose wiring and connections. Make sure that the fan spins freely.
Sounds like either your fan is broken or something is keeping it from spinning freely.
Hope this helps.

I have a Rinnai 516TR showing error code 62

Error Code 62, indicates a faulty fan motor. Which, according to your Owner's Manual, requires a service call by an authorized Rinnai service technician. it may not mean replacing the fan motor. It could also mean a faulty fan sensor.

Hope this helped you. Cheers.

My Rinnai Spectrum 28 Gas heater turns itself off for no apparent reason. The grid under the heater is free of dust. What else could cause this?

Rinnai infinity hot water service, goes hot and cold...not fun in the shower!

We had the same problem - the hot water would only be hot for 3 -5 minutes and shut off, then we had to turn the water off, wait a few minutes, and do it again. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Solution: The Rinnai serviceman showed me the heat-exchanger blower/fan: It was clogged with dust and moths.

Another clue: Our Rinnai was extremely noisy when the heat came on. After the fan was cleaned and replaced, it is nearly silent.

If you are reasonably machanically inclined:
TURN THE BREAKER / POWER OFF to the unit.

The blower-fan is located in the lower central area of the unit (at least on our unit). If you draw imaginary north-south, east-west lines through the center of the unit, the fan is in the lower-left quadrant. There is a spring clamp securing the black rubber accordian-like tube to the fan. There are two screws that secure the fan to the unit. there are two plugs that connect to the fan, as well as a third air-flow sensor that should be removed. then you can look at the fan unit, as well as the grill on the underside of the heat-exchanger that should be cleaned.

My thought was to go out and get a simple bug-screen, and place it over the air-input outlet vent going outside, but the repair guy said that although it may sound good, if that screen ever gets clogged, or reduces airflow to the Rinnai, then the unit will work harder, or even shut off, giving the same problem,
