Panasonic NV-HS1000 VCR problem

I have a very high end Panasonic HS1000 VCR, its' about 10 years old, but has not been used very much the last 7 or 8 years. However I want to keep it, and so I have this problem that needs fixing:
It intermittently shuts down when it is playing or rewinding/fastforwarding,
the machine goes into standby mode. On turning it on, the tape can be heard moving forward or backwards not sure which, it can do that for a minute or so and while it does it no operations can be made. All of a sudden it stops the tape and all is well again for a while.
I've had this problem for many years, but I learned to live with it up until a few months ago when it just went into standby and now if I try to turn it on, it lights up for a few secs, then goes back into standby. I've got a tape trapped inside now as well.. I've heard form someone that this might be a faulty 'mode-switch'? If so, is this switch easy to replace? Where is it located? Where can I buy one? I have a parts machine I can use, so would be great if someone could help.. Thanks. John

Before you try anything too elaborate, change all of the belts. There are a number of safety features built into this unit to prevent the tape from getting damaged. If one of the reel tables is not turning when it should, the unit will shutdown. There are a number of similar checks made continuously as the machine runs. If you have no experience with these units, bing it in for service. The parts should not be more than $5-$25 total. Add in the local labor charge for the total repair bill. Basically this unit should be cleaned and the alignment checked after the belts have been changed.

He svhs outputs two vertical white lines on blue screen, what does this indicate please

It sounds like you are describing a test signal used to help tune the vcr to a TV. There should be a switch somewhere marked "test signal". Find it and switch it to off. It should go then. It could be on the back near the aerial connections.

I have a Panasonic NV-FJ600 VCR which ejects every cassette which is loaded , and the two guide rollers remain at the rear of the machine and do not move forward to engage the tape .

If you mean the guides are on either side of the head drum, and the carriage is in eject position, the mechanism is out of alignment. Re-alignment and re-timing may require a workshop service by a professional Panasonic agent.

The bad news is the likely cost(s) involved if parts are replaced.

The NV-FJ600A VCRs were good models a few years ago, one of the first 'super long play' series Panasonic launched.

They use the Z-mech series of decks. These are not impossible to re-align/re-time, unlike previous mech designs, but depending on the extent of wear/damage, can prove uneconomical for a budget VCR which would now be close to 10 years old.

Panasonic Video Recorder has stopped working

looks like some kind of sensor within the mechanical part, its seems like the mechanism doesnt return fully to its original point giving you these kind of malfunctions, I suggest to take it
to an authorized dealer for a complete check up & tune up
