I just called tritronics and the first two location numbers you gave me didn't even come up as valid parts. they are not very helpful at all. I have had this TV for about 3-4 months and it has been great! I paid $100 for it on craig's list so I figure if I can fix it, cool, if not, oh well.... I sure would like to give it a try though..

Parts location wiper relay

The wiper relay is part of the Generic Electronic Module that controls most body electrical accessories. This model can be tested and it will deliver back information used to diagnose whatever problem you have with the wipers. it would be better if you had just given us the symptoms in the first place.

The picture looks scrambled and appears to be only on the horizontal. I need a solution or at least an idea of what could be wrong and perhaps replaced.

I would guess the capacitors on the hyper module have failed. This typically can be identified by a scrambled picture when you first turn it on and after a period of time the picture begins to clear up.

The hype module is most likely right behind your hookup connections in a metal sheilded enclosure soldered to the main board. It is about 7 inches wide, and 7 inches tall.

That would be a good place to start. You would need a capacitor tester to verify if the caps have failed.

Picture is wavy then fine, happens every two minutes

This model like several others had problems with what is called a Hyper board inside which processes all signal inside the set.

From a Toshiba service bulletin:

No: PJTV200503 2 Pages Ref: WU032505
Product: Projection TV Date: 3/25/05
Models: 42H81,43HX71, 43H71, 50HX81, 50H71, 50H81, 53HX71, 53H71, 57HX81, 57H81, 61H71, 65HX81 AND 65H81
Product Safety Precautions:
Product Safety Precautions are described in the Toshiba service manual(s) for models covered in this bulletin. All safety precautions and checks shall be complied with before returning the equipment to the customer. Servicers who defeat safety features or fail to perform safety checks may-be liable for any resulting damages and may expose themselves and others to possible injury.
Application: The information contained in this bulletin applies only if you encounter the symptom(s) listed below.
Subject: MVPU13 Hyper Module Repair (23786198 / 23148017X)
Symptom: Multiple Symptoms may be experienced depending on which capacitor is faulty. The primary symptoms are jagged, digitized or pie crusting of the picture. The set may also be described with a poor sync condition.
Corrective Action: Remove the MVUP13 Hyper Module from the TV chassis, remove the top shield and replace the 10uf, 16v capacitors using Part Number 24619040 as shown in Figure 1. It's recommended that all of the capacitors identified in Figure 1 be replaced. (Note: These capacitors are low impedance surface mounted aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the PCB while replacing these capacitors.)

There are several surface mounted capacitors that dry out with age and usually the problem starts out when first turned on and then eventually after on a long enough time the set works--the time will get longer as the problem gets worse.

The board is no longer available and only two options here: locate and replace all the selected caps which is not a do it yourself job or remove the board and send it out for rebuild.

Let me know if you need more info as I have seen dozens of these sets with this kind of problem.

The picture is all waves ,I get sound and color but the picture is all lines and waves, what part should I get??

To fix the shaky picture on the toshiba rear projection tv model number 42h83. You need to either replace the 13 capictors on the hyper module or simply replace the hyper module itself. It's cheaper to replace the caps, but you'll need decent soldering skills to do this. You can replace the entire hyper module with less soldering skills, but I believe the module costs about $100, maybe alittle more. You can find the entire fix by googleing "hyper module". Good luck and I hope this helps

My 57 inch Probjection Toshibi had the best picture. The problem with it now is tearing in the picture and wavy horizontal vertical lines. Problem is most prominent with DVDs. Initially the picture is...

The hyper module is located in the metal box just behind the panel where all your cables plug into the tv. It is sodered to the board syou have to get under neath and melt the four places that the metal box is sodered. Once it's out you can either replace the whole board if you can find one. I can't seem to find it anywhere. you can also chage out all the 16v 10uf capacitors which is generally the source of the problem, but even these seem to be very difficult to locate now too.
Toshiba doesn't carry them anymore. Here is a link to the bulletin they put out becuase those capacitors are a known problem and failure point.

If you locate the board for replacement on the net please post a reply to this thread i'm in search of. Thx.

There are about 6 or 7 surface mount capacitors 10mf/16v that cause the symptom you are having. They are located under the shield of the hyper module. The hyper module is located behind the input jack panel in the back. The module is vertically mounted and can be removed from its socket. However you must first unsolder the 4 anchor tabs of the shield first. Thats the easy part. Removal and replacement of the capacitors requires precise and excellent soldering skills. This job should be left to someone who has done this a few times. Hope this info helps.
