It switches off because the power source detects and overcharge and shuts itself down for protection.
The projector must be dismantled and tested : start with the bulb (look at it, if it'd blackened you will have to replace it) and the voltages at it. Then test the power source for failing capacitors and lower than normal voltages - sign of a failing component.
