While we wait for more details you may try this:

1 Power off the computer
2 Power it on and press F8 repeatedly while it is booting
3 You will see a list of boot options; choose "last known good configuration" and press enter.
4 It should then boot normally... if it does,
5 Do a system restore (if your version of windows supports that) to an earlier date when your computer worked perfectly.

If that doesn't solve it, restart the process and when you get to number 3, choose "safe mode"
4. After a successful boot, disable all the startup programs that you can do without there. To do this, use regedit or msconfig depending on your windows version. Be careful when using regedit.
5 Reboot and see. Hope these help.

Meanwhile, it would help a lot to post more details.

Desktop frozen

It is often caused by a hardware failure. The first thing to do is make sure you do not have any USB memory stick type devices plugged in. Computers don't like them plugged in while starting. If still no good, unplug all of the devices attached except for the monitor. By this I mean the keyboard, mouse, ANY USB DEVICES/ but leave the monitor plugged in. Try starting again. If it boots into windows normally, press the power button on the computer to make it shut down again, then plug each thing in one by one and repeat to see which is holding it up. If it still won't get past the BIOS screen, you have an internal problem in the computer box itself. Hope this helps

Windows Xp won't start

The most common reason a computer won't start can be a piece of hardware has failed or is causing a problem but that hardware isn't usually a hard drive, the part of your computer that stores all of your files. To fix such kinds of issue, you can take the following steps.1.create a bootable usb or cd ,there are kinds of software for you to complete this step, you can choose Fix Boot,EasyBootDisk or Windows Boot Genius. I suggest you to useWindows Boot Genius, it is easier and more effective.2.boot your computer from the created disk3.fix the issue after run the softwareBy the way, before any further steps you should make sure the power supply is good. Any hardware issues such as pc power and cable, motherboard corrupted should be troubleshooted.I don't suggest you to try the solution above until you are sure there is nothing to do with the hardware.

Acer desktop won't boot up. dont have recovery disk

When it starts, can you choose "Just boot normally" ?

the easiest way would be to reinstall Windows, but first you'll want to backup your data by either booting with a Live CD and copying all your stuff to an external drive, or removing harddisk and installing it on another machine to extract your data.

I have Acer 1200 Aspire. When I turn it on, it won't proceed past the initial window. It says boot failure.

It almost sounds like your primary boot disk is incorrectly selected in the BIOS. On older machines, the primary disk on the primary cable had to be the boot disk, but nowadays almost any device can be selected as boot disk. Check your BIOS setting and ensure that the hard disk partition that you have Windows installed on is selected as the first boot device. Otherwise, the system may be looking in the wrong place for the OS and giving the boot error.

My computer fails to boot. I shut it the normal way and now doesn't get past basic start up.

press f8 button many times when you start the computer, it will take you to the options where you select boot by safe mode. In this way you will be inside your windows. Once inside, shut down the computer in the normal way. once shut down now restart the computer in the normal way. If it does not start, you need to change your windows.
