Question about Leica S2 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Mirror got stuck. Looks like a simple problem. Can't reach without opening up the body. Bottom comes off easily, but then... Does anyone has suggestion how to remove the top cover to reach the side of the mirror. Is there any schematics or diagrams available on internet that show how to open it up properly. I searched for service manual but found only ones for older models. Regards, John

You are heading into dangerous territory. You have an expensive camera. The mirror CANNOT BE TOUCHED! I cannot stress that enough. You do not have the expertise or the tools necessary for the repair. You must have an authorized Leica repair facility do this work.

Smell coming from AWN32 speed queen top loading washer

All washing machine "smell" when the lid is left closed for more than one day. If it is really bad it might be something inside the body of the machine or something caught under the agitator.
Inside the body work. Unscrew the three screws at the bottom of the front panel. Lift the bottom of the panel forward and up. Remove. Make sure the machine is unplugged and switched off before reaching into the body work. Look for something "smelly"
Agitator - switch off and unplug - depending on the model unscrew the top cap on the agitator. Some models do not have an screw cap although it might look so. Reach with both hands into the machine and grab the agitator at it bottom flanges hands opposite each other. Pull up hard - it does not let go easily- make sure it doesn't have a top screw cap. To replace just push back until it clicks or replace and tighten the top cap.

Replacing a Turntable Motor on a Microwave

The following advice is for MOST microwave ovens (including over-the-range models). This is a fairly simple repair that can be accomplished without uninstalling the microwave oven.

If the turntable motor has failed, it can be replaced by following these steps:

1. Unplug the microwave.

2. Open oven door and remove glass tray and carousel ring.

3. Locate and remove the screws holding the bottom panel (under the microwave) in place. With the screws removed, the bottom panel should open from the front with the hinges in the back.

4. Disconnect the connector plug from the turntable motor.

5. Reach inside the oven and remove the coupler. This is the small plastic piece that the center of the glass tray sits on. You may have to gently pry up with a flat screwdriver to get it to come loose, then pull straight up.

6. With the coupler removed, loosen the mounting screw(s) to the motor and it should easily come out from under the oven.

7. Install new motor in the reverse order of the steps I just provided.

There are many appliance parts websites that carry replacement parts cheaper than retail. The average cost for most of these motors is about $30. Prices do vary depending on model number. I hope you find this information helpful.

With any lense, the viewfinder on my D60 goes black (more so when I zoom in) and the picture turns out black. Must be a body issue...

Hey there,
Sounds like the mirror is not moving out of the way for the sensor to see the image. Could be simple fix, or a broken lever. Remove the lens and see if anything looks out of line with the mirror.

I own an Olympus Evolt E-500. Unfortunately, it was dropped and landed on the corner of the case near the battery door. The camera turns on, lcd screen, flash, and shutter seem to work, BUT pictures are...

I found this camera available for purchase as brand new for $450. Spending nearly $300 to repair an older version may no be a wise choice. You may find there is a market for the camera in its current non-working condition on eBay.

With that said, to your questions. 1) It will be difficult to diagnose without seeing it, but I have a suspicion in mind.

The viewfinder picture is actually what the lens sees, bounced up via mirror to a prism that projects the image to the viewfinder. If the mirror has become dislodged and is stuck in an odd position, the image would not be projected in the viewfinder. You can see the mirror when you remove the lens from the body. The mirror should be centered in the opening but at about a 45 degree angle. If it is loose or otherwise in the wrong place, this could be the problem. If the mirror is stuck and preventing the image in the lens from projecting on the sensor (behind the mirror) no capture will be possible. Other than the optics inside the lens and the mirror, there are few parts that could obstruct the image in the lens from reaching the viewfinder. Is the aperture of the lens open? If not, there may not be enough light to see the image in the viewfinder. This would also indicate that the lens is not opening up to let you see, and may not get set to the correct aperture when taking a picture. The camera usually opens the aperture to allow you to have a nice, bright image in the viewfinder. When you press the shutter release, the lens stops down to what the program says (or your manual selection) and the mirror lifts up out of the way, and the shutter fires.

2) Can you fix it? Maybe. Again, without seeing it - its hard to know for sure what the problem is and I don't know your level of skill either.

My suggestion is to bypass the camera shop that "doesn't know what the problem is but will fix it for $270" (how is that even possible??) and deal directly with Olympus USA Service and Support by phone or email to get an estimate / factory trained tech perform the repair.

Good luck!

Loose nut inside telescope

Yuck! This is probably the primary mirror shaft nut. If you don't do anything it will eventually come off and smack the primary! This is not for the faint of heart. You must remove the corrector plate, reach down and CAREFULLY tighten the nut back up. The corrector plate is oriented to the primary. The manufacturer sorts corrector plates to mirrors. Before you remove the corrector, use masking tape to mark the exact placement of the corrector.(put the tape on the plate and the housing, then slice the tape at the edge). Might as well flock the inside of the scope while you have it open. It will increase contrast!

Shutter won't open/blaack when you look through lens

Your shutter may be stuck open... this will give the appearance of the shutter not opening as well as no image when you look through the viewfinder.

Open the back of the camera, as if you were replacing the film, and look to see if the shutter is open. If it is, you can probably see light coming through the lens when looking from the back of the camera.

If this is the case, you will need to find out why the shutter is stuck open.

Some cameras use a battery to activate the shutter, some cameras have a "bulb" setting that keeps the shutter open for long exposures.

Whatever you do, do NOT force the shutter... I might jiggle it a little bit to see if it will close, but I wouldn't recommend more than a slight jiggle.

While you have camera open, inspect the mirror. If the shutter is closed but the mirror is stuck "up" (to allow light to reach the shutter/firm), there is a chance that you would not be able to activate the shutter.

Film release button on bottom of body is stuck in. Wont pop back out.

If you can not wind and release the shutter, the film release button will not come up.
If you can not trip the shutter, by replacing the mirror release magnet at the bottom will usually fix the problem.

Sounds like your mirror has locked in the up position. Could be several things. These cameras did take a battery -- usually located on the bottom plate -- looks like a slot for a very large screwdriver -- use a coin instead, to unscrew. Inspect battery and housing, remove any corrosion with brush, match battery and replace. May have to go to camera shop for battery, or try online. If new battery does not release mirror, suggest unloading film in darkness, rewinding into cassette leaving loading tongue so can access it to reload or for developing. Then very gently try to release mirror from inside camera body and check for dust/dirt/etc. with camel's hair brush. Try operation of camera without film -- shutter, film advance lever, etc. and see if this helps.
