Where can I buy the spring??

  • thefixitguy Jul 30, 2008

I think this is my issues as well, I thought the spring piece was small but looking online for parts it looks like this spring/bar part goes the entire distanc between the hinges, maybe 14-16 inches or so? Hope I'm in the right ball park on this.

I guess that I have the same problem ... The last thing I want is to open the door and find out that I can put it back together. So, when Reg501 writes that changing the part is somehow difficult, would anyone have any recommendation before I open the microwave door ?

reg501, this is exactly the 2 steel rods that the tech guy replaced, but there still isn't any tension or spring in the door so it falls with all its weight if you open it... what did my tech guy do wrong? he says its fixed but its not right if the door slams down if you open it...

Had the same problem and bought the part online. It's not difficult to replace, simply hold the door by the handle as you loosen the 2 screws. Put the face of the door on the floor and remove 2 screws holding the plastic insert. You will have to remove the front vent panel (2 Screws) just below the microwave door. Then you might have to move the oven vent over to get to the final 2 screws on the bottom of the plastic panel. Once you have the palstic panel off the springs are exposed, simply look at how it is placed in the holder before you remove the damaged one. Replace and then re-assemle the door.

Just changed one of my springs, ordered two just in case the other one snaps. I lucked out in that I didn't have to move my microwave from its mounts. I have the built in oven, convection oven microwave unit. The vent for the oven that has to be moved to the right to remove the last screw in the plastic panel had a short fat phillips screw holding it in, I was able to use a pair of needle nose vice grips to grab the head and turn the screw out. Replacing the spring was a snap after that. Thanks for the instructions.

This microwave door uses two steel rods that cross one another inside the door that twist as the door opens. These rod are prone to breakage. A little difficult to replace. Use caution when removing the two screws in the door. The entire door will come apart and want to fall to the floor.

You have to pull the complete unit from wall, take top setion apart to get to lamp, do not attempt to change this lamp unless you have knowledge of electricity and what it can do to you if you FAIL TO TURN IT OFF FIRST.

KEMC308 has frozen, unusual looking display info. Nothing works.

Try unplugging it or flipping the breaker to the oven. Leave the power off to it for a minute, then turn it back on.

Need to replace light bulb in kitchen aid microwave

KitchenAid wants $58 for the replacement bulb. I bought it for $1.99 from and it works just fine. The Item number is Q5G412V. It is a halogen 5-watt, 12-volt bipen G-4. Replacing the bulb requires some dismantling of the microwave. At first I was nervous about removing so many parts to get to the bulb but in the end it really wasn't so bad. The only tool I needed was a Phillips screwdriver. I surfed the net a eventually found instructions left by a friendly Blogger that guided me through the whole process. KitchenAid engineers were so STUPID when they designed this microwave. It takes two hours to replace a bulb that should take 5 minutes. Oddly enough, replacing the bulb in the normal oven below the microwave oven is a piece of cake.
