Each side will pop off, it may seem as if the piece will break, but if you use a flathead screwdriver with duct tape on end (so no scratching) and use soft pressure the plastic cover will come off. Under that there is four(4) screws to remove, they are easy to see.Look on appliance parts pro (give make

If the problem was intermittent before complete failure that generally indicates something other than the control board. All my searching said to replace the main control board, I did and the problem remained, so before you do check the wiring. The problem is probably at the connector near the freezer hinge behind the vented kick-plate. The kick-plate is held in place by two very stiff clips about 1/4 of the way in from the ends. You will need to be aggessive to remove it but I suggest starting at one end and pulling out HARD. Be carefull to not let the plastic cut your hands though. Once you get that done and find the connector check the wiring at the connector. On mine there was evidence of corrosion but the problem obvious since the power wire connector pin was broken and pulled out of the connector. Go to Home Depot (Lowes doesn't carry what you need) or Radio Shack and get some 22-18 wire size male and female crimp connectors. Make sure to get some that will be complete shrouded once connected. Cut all of the wires from both sides of the existing connector making note of the wire colors and where they go. By the way, GE isn't real good about following through on their color codes. On my unit, it is black to black, blue to blue and red to white. I recommed using the female connectors on the wires coming from under the refrigerator since at least one is the "hot" wire and it will remove the possibility of it shorting should it be unplugged. Just as a note, if you have the knowledge necessary to use and Volt-Ohmmeter you can check the voltage at the connections behind the dispenser control board. When I checked the voltage was reading @12V but I noticed that if I put my fingers on the leads while checking, then the voltage dropped to about 8V. That was the clue that there was a bad connection somewhere that was limiting the current flow.

When you try to get ice does it make any sounds (clanks, whirring, grinding, etc.) like something is happening inside or is it just quiet? If quiet, see if you can look up inside the door switch area with a flashlight and press the button with your finger instead of the lip of a glass. Post more info when you have it and we'll go from there.

SOURCE: ice maker will not dispense the ice

The auger motor and coupling in the rear may be frozen and won't turn.
Remove the ice bin.
Place a screwdriver or similar device in the forks of the auger and twist counterclockwise till it moves. The replace the ice bin and try again.
It will be difficult to move.
If that does not work. Turn off the fridge and use a hair dryer to hrat the auger gear and motor till it frees up.

you've already done the first thing i suggest, and that is to change the water filter. But if you still cant get ice made, you have a problem with either your ice maker or your water valve, or an electrical issue in the ice maker system.

Icemaker is in line with the water and runs from the icemaker threw the door and up to the water valve. So that is why the ice maker is working and the water is not working, most likely the water has frozen inside, And this can be caused by many different reasons, if it has been humid or the door was left open then shut it would cause the moisture in the air to be drawn to the warm water and flash frosted the pipe, try to see if you can defrost the line with a hair dryer. If that does not work post here and I will tell you the next step to try.

Water dispenser on front of refrigerator door does not dispense water. Ice Cube maker continues to make ice cubes. Defrosting doesn't fix problem.

Water dispensing solenoid is bad. You need to replace the solenoid valve. This typically is independent of the ice maker.

In door ice dispenser does not work but the water dispenser does.

check to make sure there is water or ice in your ice maker tray. If none then problem is usually a water supply issue to the ice maker. Behind the frig are the water supply inlet valves. One is for the water dispenser in the door. THe other is for the ice maker. However when one goes bad they both are replaced as one unit. Also Check position of fingers in ice maker. If not in a vertical position then try to reset the ice maker unit and worse comes to worse, replace it with a new one.

Kenmore Ice Maker

Sounds like a water valve problem to me. Force the ice maker to cycle. (turn it off and let it get cold for at least an hour then turn it back on). Test for voltage on the ice maker side of the valve. The valve is usually in the back near the floor. Just follow the water line. Another solution. switch the wires on the water valve. then try the water dispenser and see if it makes the ice maker fill up. See if when the ice maker cycles water comes out the door. If the ice maker causes water in the door , replace the valve, If door switch causes ice maker to fill up replace ice maker again.

The icemakers won't make ice if the temperature is not below a certain set point. Varies between manufacturers. Try making the temp colder.
