Not exaclt, as soon as the TV is turned on it has ghosting deeper redish color prevails, dark shades and then starts to gets a bit better with some brightness coming back so you could make up how faces etc. As soon as channel is changed it goes back to similar but in time it is back to what I just explained. The thing is till yesterday night it was crystal clear, crisp superb picture. I have also tried my DVD and Blue-ray to check if it was cable box issues, alas it is not all inputs work the same

HI tried posting reply but I guess it did not go through. The image on the TV right now becomes very blurry with redish tone and dark hallows, cannot read text or make clear of faces but 10-15 minutes later it regains back closer to normal but still blurry motion slow but brightness is back. I thought cable box could be problem so I checked DVD and Blue Ray feed both are same so problem is with TV.

Till yesterday night the picture was crisp, with clear Sony beautful colors, don;t know what has happened. Need your help. I will try to make a small video and post it as soon as I can.

    Thanks,

The last expert never responded after two responses when I provided him with the link to video showing exactly whats the problem.

Again the issue started last week, the Sony Bravia 46XBR6 was working perfectly, it was turned on in the morning and the picture was dark, showing ghost trails, changing slowly. Over time it became a bit better but still we could not find reason what had happened. Checked the cable box, ran DVD player and Blue Ray all showed the same results.

Please see this link I have put a video of problem on You Tube for you to look at.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s-o72HBe...

Please let me know what could be the issue, any easy fixes or the LCD is doomed.

    Thanks,

HI Just, right now the TV is linked with multiple cable sources ie. 2 x HDMI one from Blue Ray Player and One from DVD and one component. On all three inputs I am currently having the same problem that's why I listed DVD, Blue Ray and HI Def Cable Box..

    Thanks,

Thanks welcome for your help. I am a bit taken away that Sony flat panel can have this problem. The TV is two years old so unless the LCD is warranted for more than 1 year I guess I have to buy a new TV.

    Thanks again.

I have had good support and if the expert is right than its back to wallet crunching to get a new LCD. Anyways appreciate all the help especially from last two techs.

    Regards.

I watched clip that you posted on youtube, it was great help to diagnose problem.
I'm Sony qualified tech and aware of this problem, it is LCD Panel (screen) problem that picture looks like slow motion.
LCD Panel will be replaced to get it fixed, if tv is under warranty then call Sony and ask warranty cover and if tv is out of warranty period, it will cost you approx 80% of new tv price.
There is no other fix except to replace lcd panel.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Yes, new TV is better option if lcd panel has no more warranty, check tv warranty documents to know validity.
I replace 46 inch lcd panel under warranty 3 days back for same problem, I'm an authorized Sony, Samsung, Aiwa service provider in my area.

Hello. You should try a new wire to hook the tv up to the signal, or even using a different connection on the back of the set. One of the advantages to the Sony Bravia is the number of different methods of hooking it up. J.

    Thanks for your response!!

This seems to be a bad news. This is an internal fault and needs repair. However, there could be few possibilities for the same.Is that a possibility for you to upload an image of the same so that i could take a look at it. It would help. Do you have electronics repair experience to inspect and test few components to make sure the exact fault.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My Sony KDL-32M3000 has ghost (dark red) display with slow motion picture. What could be the cause and how can it be repaired. Thanks

Thats usually caused by bad flex tab bonds on the LCD panel itself. If you search for flex tab issues vidoes it will show how the pisture can get slow motion in areass as well as double images in that area.

Sony bravia 52 kdl xbr ghosting

Michael, does the ghosting go away of you tap the set? Or if you turn off the set and let it cool off and turn it back on, is the ghosting still here? One of the most common causes of ghosting or double image problem is due to a defective LCD panel tab. Sony's are known for this problem. I would recommend getting a diagnoses done on the set to be sure. If it turns out to be a LCD tab problem, the only true fix is to replace the panel.

Picture ghosts shows 3 images like it is out of focus colors also ghost in 3

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

Sony 52 inch XBR with bands of ghosted images

Its a TAB bond Problem with the LCD. You can take apart the TV and install a rubber Bumper to put pressure on the TAB. TAB bonds always get worse... I dont know how long it will solve the issue... but u can get a little more life out of it.
Rember when working with the TV the voltages can kill!!
Heres a link to see someone fixing.
I have the same TV...same problem...common problem...unless u ask Sony.

I have the same issue. Bought the TV 1/08 and it started showing those exact symptoms about 3-4 months ago. It generally progresses and gets worse. You can try to fix it as it's some kind of TAB connector issue, or keep calling Sony so that the 52" owners of the XBR4 and 5 series get the extended warranty just like the 46" owners received for the same series. If enough of us keep calling, they'll have to act.

My sony xbr5 flickers until warmed up

brennanrp, I hope you purchased a warranty on your TV. My 46 in xbr-5 was doing the same thing. I called the store I bought it from and they took it to a repair shop. The panel inside, basically the inner workings are faulty and Sony has put an extended warranty on it. Get it looked at as it will only get worse. Soon you will probably be seeing some vapor like images across the screen if you have not already. the lines starting showing up even after extended viewing times.

Screen goes dull at times

The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.
