Question about Zoom G2 MultiEffects Guitar Pedal

1 Answer

I have a Zoom G2, It has excessive noise. It has the correct power supply and I tried powering it with batteries, but it still produces the loud distorted noise. It worked fine the last time I used it. It is always plugged into my Furman power conditioner and the Furman is unplugged when my equipment is not in use. Thanks for you help on this one.

Check if it might be an intermittent input or output jack by wiggling these. Jackks are notorious for problems. Often the soldering of the jack to the circuit board seperates causing noise.

Why are there only two dots when I power on?

1. Make sure that you have the correct power supply plugged in.
2. If you are using the BOSS power supply, it could be defective. Measure the voltage it is producing and make sure it is correct.
3. If the voltage is correct, then the problem is inside the unit, and it will need servicing.

How do I install patches?

Download n install 2 softwares for G2 from ZOOM website.
1. USB subsystem. Driver to connect zoom fx to PC/Notebook.
2. EDIT & SHARE. Software to create/copy sound patch.

Connect USB cable from G2 to PC/notebook.
No need adapter power supply, because the power is supply via
USB cable from PC/notebook.
Open EDIT & SHARE. It's easy,like copy,paste,rename,delete etc.
Just open the menu that you want to do and follow the
instructions. Sound patch can be load from files that you
download, or create it in EDIT & SHARE.
Patch can be load one files or group. Right Click the sound that you want to change,copy-paste it from new file/sound.
You can import/export files/patches from/to PC library (downloaded files).
It is recomended that you save/backup your original files,before load new sound.

I hope this helps.

Why zoom g2 point blinking ?

There is damage/burnt at Transistor Q4 or Q3 or both. Usually followed by R8. Replace it.
Q3 = BC337 (SMD marked as 6C) NPN.
Q4 = BC327 (SMD marked as 5A/B/C/D) PNP.
R8 = 470 ohm (SMD marked as 471).

Noise

This seems to be a battery problem unless you use an AC adapter. If it does it on AC, I would check my guitar cord and power supply. The wrong power supply could do that and a bad guitar cord can as well. If you use a speaker cable as an instrument cable, it could do the same.

My Zoom H4 only works with batteries sometimes

Yes, corrosion is most likely the problem, you may also check the power cord for the correct voltage. If you are savy enough you can take it apart and clean the connections and run it from a power supply. I hope this helps, good luck..

I think the ac power supply i used may have been the wrong polaity, hence my zoom g2 is not working from mains or battery. is there an internal fuse that could have blown? if so is it readily repairable

If I remember correctly, these units are diode protected. You have smoked that part and it needs to be replaced. This is not a user repair as access is not easy. This is a simple repair for an experienced tech. Expect a parts cost in the $2 range.

No power

There is a possibility that the receptacle for the adapter plug has one or more broken solder joints on the circuit board.
