Question about Pioneer DVD & Blu-Ray Players

2 Answers

We had a power failure and now my Pioneer DVR (Tivo) 810H does not turn on at all. I can't even find a power button but it is as if it was unplugged. I tried plugging it into another circuit - still no go. When you press the TIVO remote the infrared light goes on - but nothing is displaying at the front of the box. Is there a hidden power button or reset button?

You may want to look toward putting the units on UPS units (Uninterruptible Power Supply) which is a good idea anyway. check the drive the drives may be bad but if its still under warranty you can return it for replacement

Maybe a fuse has blown. Do you have warranty?

Power supply unit failure

It could be the IC101 (MR2920) and the zener D104 both failed, or IC1 (MD5001T) failed as well, here is the link where I've descrived how I fix the issue on my DVR-520H, it is in italian but you can translate it with Google: http://www.plcforum.it/f/topic/181344-riparazione-guasto-alimentatore-pioneer-dvr-520h-dvr-520h-failure/

I need a owner's manual and a remote control. I purchased a Pioneer DVR-810H on Craigslist and it doesn't have a remote or owner's manual.

Are there different types of cablecards?

They're lying to you, to charge you more.
A cable card is a cable card is a cable card.  If your provider stands by their "special card" BS, switch to a new cable provider.
They're probably trying to scare you into getting their DVR instead of Tivo.  And it's not the same, ever. Tivo is far superior to any other DVR on the market, free or not.

I cannot record copy-protected tapes to DVD on my RCA DVD recorde

Here is a link to the installation guide for your Pioneer model - refer to every bit of information on p. 29 (which will refer you to some pertinent info in Ch.1): http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_11221/98391312Installation%20Guide%20DVR-810HS.pdf

If it will not permit you to do the recording:
You have to use a backdoor method. Inspect your TV and see if it has a yellow jack labelled video OUT or monitor OUT - many TV's do not have them. If you are one of the lucky ones that has a video OUT:
1) Connect a VCR to one of the televisions inputs.
2) Connect a red, white and yellow cable from the video and audio OUTs of your TV to either INPUT 1 or 2 on your DVD recorder
3) Make sure that your DVD recorder is set to either INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 - reading the manual for that model is driving me up the wall - I would change the channel on the DVD Recorder (not the TV) to 2 and use the channel down button until it says Input 1 or Input 2 - whichever the appropriate choice is
4) Play the VHS tape and make sure that you can see the picture on your television screen.
5) Press Record on the DVD recorder

Good luck- I would go insane trying to use that Pioneer - it is user-friendly, but not techie-friendly.

Pioneer DVR-320-S is dead.

Well if it is dead and the transformer is getting power then next step is the processor.  Which if it is dead, then I am sure all the internal components are as well.  My recommendation is have a professional give you and estimate and buy a UPS unit that will regulate the power to you important expensive units such as this.

I can't get my tivo to change channels. It stays on the same channel

I believe that you are already on the right path, your tivo will still be assuming that you are running off the cable box plus you watch dancing with the stars for five minutes one time just to see Warren Sapp attempt to dance and now all of a sudden it wants to record every single piece of televison with dance in the title or discription, but I'm not bitter.

Just re-accomplish the set up and let it know that you are no longer running a cable box. Also tell it that ditching you friday night to hang with it's old high school buddies was so not cool.

DVD stuck/jammed in tray

there may be two screws on the top of the tray that holds the rounded magnet, the one that is placed to hold the disc when spinning, remove it, you can then simply take the disc out.
