Take out the memory and put the original back in and see if it works then.

If not, you probably need to replace the power supply.

Computer does not boot up

Computer has three short beeps as it starts? computer RAM (memory) related issue.

If you've recently added or tried to add additional memory to the computer and have started getting these beeps. Remove all new memory you've added to the computer. If the computer works fine after removing the new memory you're encountering either an incompatibility or defective new memory.

Sometimes when the computer is moved and/or over time a memory stick can become loose causing the computer to be unable to read the memory or get errors as it's reading it. Try fixing this issue by opening the computer removing each of the memory sticks you have in the computer and then placing them back into the computer.

Hope this helps.

Just added new memory and now nothing comes up when powered up I checked to make sure I had the stick in correctly, but the computer beeps when powered up, and nothing shows up on the monitor...

Try turning the computer on without the new memory stick in. If that works, it's either the new memory stick is not plugged all the way in (most probable), the new memory stick is not compatible with your computer (highly unlikely since I'm sure you checked compatibility first).

Best way to put a mem stick in is to hold it on top and push it firmly downwards until the clips that secures the mem stick click in place. :)

Memory chip now computer doesnt work

Have you tried putting the PC back to how it was before you had the problem? If you have purchased the wrong type of memory for your motherboard then this can stop your PC from booting. Check the details on the old memory to make sure they match the same as the new memory you have purchased.

If this has helped you then please rate me!

I removed the old memory and installed 4 1GB cards and the computer doesn't work? Help.

Adding new memory can be tricky. First the new memory has to be compatible with the motherboard.
By that I mean, you need to know how much memory the motherboard can max out at.Can it take only 2 GB or 4GB etc. And it has to be a match to what memory speed your motherboard can handle. If your motherboard takes DDR than you must put DDR in, if it takes DDR2 than you must put DDR2 in. Look at the old memory, and try to match all the numbers you find on it. Than look up the memory specs for the motherboard to find out how much it can take.
Any computer will not operate corecctly if the memory is the wrong kind, or installed wrong.

Memory Slot short

Probably get a techician to have a look at it. If u smelt something burn, then most likely it was due to a short circut on the motherboard in which the motherboard is faulty.

Take out the RAM and power the PC back on again. If it doesnt turn on, then the motherboard is faulty and you will need a new one.

Installed new DIMM memory in Compaq D510 CMT - puff of smoke

Here's a full list of the POST beeps for your computer:

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00704816/c00704816.pdf

That flashing numlock and beep pattern says there is no system memory. When you let the smoke out before it might have been fatal for something. It could be the memory itself is dead, or something could have been damaged on the system board that is keeping it from detecting memory. The only way to know for sure is to try another stick of known good memory.

There's also the possibility you used the wrong kind of memory when you added the new part. Here's a link to the hardware guide for the computer:

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00706221/c00706221.pdf

You can use the information to be sure any memory you get is supported.

Hope this helps you. Good luck getting the computer running.
