    good nite!

I have a dell inspiron 1000 and i am having power problems. the power cord will not work at all. when i remove the battery from the laptop and leave the power cord connected, i still cannot get any power from the laptop. i tried powering up with the battery pack inserted and without it inserted and still got nowhere. at times the indicator light on the battery pack lights up when i press firmly on the end that goes into the laptop while it is still attached and still nothing even though the green light is constant. when i connect the power supply normally, there is no green light on the adapter. when i leave the power cord atached to the wall plug and remove it from the laptop then the green light is constant. i am incline to believe that the power cord may be working and the ac slot on the laptop may be faulty. i have no other similar laptop to test the power cord on.

Same problem. The cord works, has the green light on and when you check the cord with a power meter, it shows power running the length of the cord to the tip.

Connect it to the laptop and nothing. Seems to be something with the internal part of the laptop where the power cord goes.

After 1.5 years, I've noticed that my eeePC won't take a charge. In fact, the adapter is good, but I need to hold the plug in an akward angle to get the charging light to come on. Anyone else have this...

Hi There,

Probably one of the weakest points in a laptop and one of the most common failures is the DC Power Jack that your adapter cord plugs into. Over time, a yank here, a tug there on the cord while plugged in can easily begin to dislodge the Power Jack. Once repaired, often the battery you thought was dead will charge again because the Power Jack is a direct link to the battery charger pins where it pops into the laptop.

I used to replace them myself, but now there are companies posting fixed price Auctions on eBay to replace only the Power Jack for around $50 plus maybe $20 for shipping. I have used several different companies there and all went smoothly.

Go to eBay and in the search box type in "Laptop DC Power Jack Repair" and you'll be able to work through shipping your laptop to one of them and having it come back just like new. If you don't use PayPal, seek one out that will accept a regular Credit/Debit card transaction and you'll be good to go. Figure 7 to 10 days turn around time.

Best Regards

Power jack replacement Dell Inspiron 6400

When you press the power button, no lights, fans, beeps, anything?

Is the power jack moving around? If not, I would check the charger and cord to make sure power is getting through to the plug that goes into the jack.

My acer laptop not switching on aftern working till late yesterday night. No POST screen i.e. no display

If runnning with battery installed check for power to the battery. If running from AC check the AC power adapter/power cord....also check to see if the AC jack on the back of the laptop not loose on the can test to see if the AC plug has some "wiggle" when you move it while in the jack. This is an common problem with mostly a lot of laptop especially if the laptop are used in position where they are bumped hard enough to loosen the connection from the board and stop charging. If these doesn't help then seek professional help from an laptop technician that can do an more thorough diagnostic test.

Check the CMOS battery, as this has been my experience regarding this issue. Most likely, especially if the machine sat for some time, the battery died, and simply needs to be replaced. Very low cost ($4-$5), simply corrected issue, if that is the problem. Very possibly the battery had just a bit of "life" left in it, and once it was done, it was done.

If this doesn't work for you, or you need further help, please post back. Otherwise, thanks for rating FixYa!

DC jack replacement is easy however requires a bit care since its mounted on the mainboard. Desolder the old DC jack. Solder the new one firmly. Dont keep the soldering iron too long on the PCB as it will damage the lines and will deform the DC Jack. You can get DC jack very low cos from local repair stores or you can order from Toshiba parts depot (800-524-8338)
Please post your question if you need further assistance.

Power jack removal and installation

most laptops use a combination of screws and tab/slots clamping to keep the clam shell halves together. The tabs fit carefully into the mating slots, so it is up to you to find them. Carefully press in on the sides where the clam shell halves mate and find locations where it is more difficult to press inward. This area will be a place where to find a tab/slot mate.
