Laptop broken screen... plugged in Dell monitor, still doesnt work

You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Monitor stuck in safe power mode

"Power Save Mode" but it tells you to press a key or whatever?

were you able to reboot the PC?

if you can reboot the PC but no screen is showing up during Windows load (you can see the hard drive activity LED lighting up and your hard drive spinning), then, youre probably have a broken monitor.

Or if your problem is you cannot wake from power saving mode (after your PC goes to sleep, then its probably just the driver for your video card). VISTA has some issues with certain drivers that the PC cannot wake from sleep. http://www.ezsystemrepairs.com/

No desply monitor aoc crt problem

WHY IS THE POWER LIGHT ON MY MONITOR NOT COMING ON? Make sure the power button is ON and the Power Cord is properly connected to a grounded power outlet and to the monitor.
THE POWER LIGHT OF MY MONITOR IS ON AND THE COLOR IS AMBER, BUT THERE IS NO VIDEO OR DISPLAY. WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS? Your computer may be in screen saver mode, it has instructed the monitor to go to power saving mode, or the the monitor's video cable is not properly connected to the computer. Another possible cause of this is a locked-up or in-operative computer since the computer is what supplies the monitor with all the display data or information. Move the mouse or press a key to de-activate the screen saver or power saving mode. Check the monitor's video cable and make sure it is snugly connected to the computer. To see if the computer is operating properly, press the CAPS LOCK key on the keyboard repeatedly while checking the CAPS LOCK light. If the light is not turning ON & OFF, the computer is non-functional. Contact your computer manufacturer for help.

When i turn on my pc i hear a noise but in my screen i don't see nothing

Do you see any activity from the hard drive lights or do you hear a single beep from the computer speaker? If yes do you have an flat screen or a CRT monitor and do you have a power on LED illuminated on the monitor? Can you see any output accessing the menu mode of the monitor? If yes check your cable from the monitor to video card to make sure it is plugged in. If no it could be your monitor or video card and you will need to test the monitor on another system. If you press the power key once for a second will the computer immediately shut off? if yes the problem could be the mother board or power supply. You need to test the power supply if it is good suspect mother board or CPU. If the system shuts down within a minute then test the video card.

I have a Gateway laptop whose screen just broken and is cracked. However, I also do have an external Gateway monitor, model NO: FPD1730. I hooked up the external monitor to the laptop and it only works in...

Excuse me if I'm talking below you level of expertise...

With an external monitor on a laptop you usually have to activate the plug where you've connected the external monitor cable . This requires pressing 2 keys in combination, usually a FUNCTION button + a specific function key. Yeah, they're named almost the same thing, but I'll try to keep it straight.

On your keyboard's function keys (above the numeric keys typically) should be small pictures besides the standard F1, F2, etc. which are usually in white. You're looking for the picture that resembles a monitor. On my Thinkpad the small pictures are colored blue, and the monitor is on the F7 key. It so happens that my FUNCTION button (different than the function keys we were just talking about) which is located in the lower left of my keyboard is also blue. Yours might be in a different position, but I'm giving you an idea when to look.

When you find the Function Button, press and hold this key and the correct Function key (F1, F2, whatever). You might need to press this 1 or 2 times to get the correct monitor setting. I'm not exactly sure of the order but you'll activate the external monitor, then another combination press will activate both displays, then a 3rd will do another setting, then back to the beginning. If you miss it the first time just slowly press the combination until you get what you're looking for. Be patient, and press once every 5 seconds or so, giving the computer enough time to change its settings.

Hope this helps!

Can't get laptop to connnect to monitor

Your laptop may very well have a function key that turns the VGA socket on at the back of the laptop.
Also you will need to check in display properties that the secondary monitor is enabled.
If you need more help post a comment with the make a model of your laptop.

The screen is broken and i need to connect it to a pc monitor in order to get data off but the monitor is saying no signal.... it showed the windows startup but then turns off

most likely, that's because the video resolution or frequency is not set correctly for the "new" monitor.
i am assuming that you are NOT ref'ing to a laptop computer being the one you need data from...
your best bet will be to begin tapping the "F8" key prior to seeing the windows load screen. you should see the "ACER" screen first then it will normally transition to the windows loading screen. when you see the ACER screen, start tapping the "F8" key approximately once per second (if you tap too rapidly, you will get a keyboard error... in which case, just reboot the computer.). once the "F8" stroke is successful, you should get a list of options. one of the options should say "Safe Mode" and "Safe Mode with Networking". using your arrow keys, select one of them and press enter. hopefully, being in safe mode will allow your "new" monitor to display the default frequency and resolution.

Dead compaq laptop, no boot activity

Larnold..Sounding like you need to check the LCD Power Inverter Circuit board.. this is located inside the screen a long rectangular circuit board that sends power to the screen backlight & Display Panel.. Could also be a Bad Backlight.. Try Booting it.. Hold it up to a light and look closely at the screen.. If you see a faint image but no light, it is the Backlight, if Just Black No Activity then its most likely the Power Inverter, OR a Bad Video Card.. You can test the VIDEO by Connecting the laptop to a Computer Monitor or similar with the laptops VGA Serial port.. then Use your function Key and Switch to 2nd Display.....(one of your F keys.. ).. If it Shows up on another screen, Its a Display problem and not the video card... Hope This Helps alittle.. Cheers
