Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer
The control locked light is lit and it will not allow me to do anything else. I have pushed OPTION AND SELECT button at the same time to unlock and it is not responding. How do I reset this and how did this happen? Help I need to do laundry!
Solution: Hold down the power and delay start button at the same time. In about 3-4 seconds a beep will occur and the red key lock will turn off. I think it is a problem in the machines firmware. I just guessed at what combination of buttons the engineers used to do a firmware reset. In any case it worked for me.

The red "lock" light indicates a problem in the washer. In most cases, the lint trap needs to be emptied. Make sure the washer is unplugged. On newer models it is behind the small door on the bottom of the washer in the front. On older models you must remove the lower panel to get to it. Newer models have a spout inside that folds down, older ones don't. You'll need a dish about 2" deep to catch water. Slowly unscrew the filter, water will start to trickle out. If the dish fill up, screw the trap back in til the water stops & empty the dish. Repeat until there's no more water. Then completely unscrew the filter & empty. It's also a good idea to wash it with hot water, as it will probably stink. Replace the filter & make sure you don't over tighten (after all, it's just plastic). Keep a rubber mat under the washer during the 1st load, in case it's not tight enough. Close the door or reattach the panel when you're sure it's in properly. When you plug it back in, the red light will probably come back on. I just held the "lock" button, beside the power button for a few seconds. It beeped & the light went out. I did this with the door closed. If it doesn't work on your model, try the other suggestions here for getting rid of the "lock" light. Washer has worked perfectly since cleaning the trap.

This issue seems to happen from time to time when you unplug and plug this unit back in. If you see a green light next to the "Control Lock" button your lock is active and none of the controls will work.
To unlock the controls hold down "options" and "select" together until the control lock turns off (around 20 seconds). Control Lock light will turn of and the washer will be back to normal.
This is used as a child safety lock if you don't want someone using the washer or kids playing with it. I think it is a defect since it should not activate when you unplug and plug the unit in.

Is it full of water? if so drain then it should reset. sounds like a frigidaire built machine, so drain pump underneath in middle, without cleanout port. remove hose at tub and check hose and basket if equipped for debris. check pump end. tech sheet at lower front left will tell how to engage pump in diagnostic.

The Control Lock prevents unintended use of the washer. You can also use the control lock feature to prevent unintended cycle or option changes during a cycle. When CONTROL LOCKED is lit, all buttons are disabled except for Pause/Cancel and Start.
You can lock the controls while the washer is operating.
