When entering info on the remote, the power went off with no indicator lights or screen display.  There is no power.  How do I replace the indicator transformer?  Do I remove the Hard disk and how do I identify and test the transofrmer and where do I get one if I need to replace it?  The fuse is ok.

Without looking inside the unit, all I can guess is that you had a power hit of some sort that smoked a portion of the power supply. These supplies can be sensitive sometimes. If you don't have a standby light, then the standby transformer is the likely problem. Replace that and you should be OK.

My dvd player rdr-hxd860 seems to be frozen on 'welcome'

I've had the same problem. I've actually unplugged the unit and it's been unplugged for probably about two weeks. When I reconnected the power this morning the problem persisted where the DVD Recorder was stuck on the Welcome Screen. As a last ditch effort I pressed and held the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the word "Welcome" dissapeard of the screen and back on. This seems to have reset the unit. I know I should have tried this a long time ago. So much for reading the instruction manual! I'm just glad it's working again!

Having trouble recording TV broadcast to DVD?

My LG DVD recorder was unreliable when recording TV broadcasts to "standard" DVD disks. Frequently it would begin recording a show and then stop with a copyright error message during some commercial. I rarely got a complete show. Very frustrating!

Solution: Buy some DVD-RAM disks and this machine will become totally reliable. They are hard to find and a little more expensive than +RW or -RW. Because of the copyright programming on this machine only DVD-RAM disks will work in VR (Video Recorder) mode.

Display is out but power still works

I suspect that you'll need to replace the display assembly. Best check with Panasonic. You may be able to get hold of a replacement part to do it yourself, or find a cheap dead/dying unit from eBay.

My LG LRH-880 HDD/DVD recorder sometimes stops recording by itself, before the end of the programming and even if there is enough disk space left.

Somehow, my HDD/DVD recorder recorded correctly 2 times last night, even if I did not do anything specific to fix. I will keep an eye on new occurences of this problem, but it appears at the moment that the issue disappeared by itself.

DMR-E55 DVD Recorder

Hi Liz
The majority of problems with this particular model are associated with the power board. The drive unit is unlikely to be faulty. Do not risk further damage by immediately trying lense cleaning as suggested by some. The lense will very rarely require cleaning.
The power board can be repaired if you have some technical ability. I have posted full instructions on Fixya on how to do this but you would need to be able to use a soldering iron. These are good units that can usually be restored, so it would be a pity to throw it out for such a fault,
