Have tried it on my latop as well, but am finally on my way, tried imaging the drive but no luck even with undisker. Now am finally using getdataback to retrieve it, this should work, am pretty confident. Every drive needs some free space for buffering data, problem is theres nothing in windows to prevent a drive from bieng filled to the brim as i learnt from this experience. Thanks a lot for your time, incase u think of something else, always welcome. Thanks again.

It's possible that files system, more exactly, the MFT or file allocation table is damaged. it may be caused by disk ejecting while the drive is still working. also it might be caused by virus infection. to fix this you can
step 1: retrieve data from the drive with recovery apps. since it can't be opened now, you need to restore data with professional to
ols.
If there is no important data on the drive, you can skip the step 1 and try the following solution:
Solution 1: format the drive directly. you can either format it under Disk Management or Windows Explorer with Quick Format.
Solution 2: carry out ChkDsk to repair file system errors. chkdsk /f g: g is the drive letter of the partition in question and it can be other letter in your case.
Type Y and hit Enter and restart computer to resume disk check if you get the message "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? "

You will need to put up some more info about what type of drive it is, external/internal, what operating system you are with, how old is your drive, what was the last operation you used the drive for?

Hi,

Thats not a good sign when it says disk read error/ disk corrupted. It usually indicates some sort of hardware failure. Did you try it with other USB ports or another computer for that matter? Look into the USB connector, maybe there is something foreign in there causing the errors (like dust).

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

You unplugged it when data was still written on it so it was corrupted. Some files are still recoverable so use

to get them.

The directory is corrupted and unreadable

The most common cause of this is removing the USB drive without clicking "Safely remove hardware" in the task bar. Especially if data is being written to the drive, this can result in corrupt files and may make the drive unusable.

I'm sorry to say the data may be unrecoverable--ALWAYS make backups!

Two things to try before you write-off the data as lost forever.

One: Try booting the computer in SAFE mode and see if you can pull files off the USB Drive--you may have to give the drive administrative privileges.

Two: Download and run the trial version of the BadCopy data recovery program at this link:

http://www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/

To make the drive usable again, find it in My Computer, RIGHT click on it and click "Format." The choose "Quick" format. A quick format should make it usable again.

If the BadCopy program could find no files to recover: After the quick format, you may be able to pull some of the files off simply in windows. If not, run BadCopy again: It just may find some files after the quick format.

A full format erases ALL data which may remain on the drive. Only use quick format if you expect to recover anything.

Good Luck!

File or directory corrupted and unreadable

The directory is like a "table of contents" in a printed textbook.

If a child's crayons have been used to overwrite those pages, making them unreadable, then the table of contents cannot be used to locate the starting page-number of a specific chapter. So, one must read through the whole textbook, page-by-page, looking & trying to recognize the start of a chapter, and then the end of the chapter.

Similarly, there exist "file-recovery" computer software programs that do such "linear" reading of the entire ZIP disk, and trying to reconstruct the "file-structure" that was recorded in the "disk-directory".

Search for "file scavenger" software, and give it a try.

Photos don't show

Usually you are not limited in the number of folders you can create. You can have this problem if you are not createing folders to store the pictures in. Make sure ther are no pictures or other files outsde the folders in the root directory. If that does not help, that that drive to a camera store or coptuter shop that can do a data recovery. If there is a corruption in the USB directory then you may get problems like this as well. Reformatting the USB drive might help, but you will need to remove everything from it first. Will not let me save a file and reads file permission error

I think for some reason there is a limit to the number of files (nb: number of files not amount of space used) that the root directory can handle. Try making folders and moving files into these to cut down on the number of root directory entries.

Rio pearl directory corrupted

first, and this is always good: If available, firmware for the Rio Carbon can be downloaded online. Second, this might be the problem: The Rio Carbon communicates with your computer differently in MTP mode than it does in MSC mode. When in MTP mode, the Rio Carbon cannot display hidden files in folders, cannot allow transfers to the root Rio Carbon directory, and cannot allow the creation of new folders. (Folders can be transferred to the Rio Carbon using drag-and-drop and copy-and-paste methods.) To use traditional folder options, change the Transfer Mode settings to put the Rio Carbon in MSC mode. Last, "..Removing the Rio Carbon from a USB connection before Idle is displayed on the screen may result in a corrupting the player's file system. If for any reason you suspect that your Rio player's file system has been corrupted, reformatting the player will restore the file system to its original state..."
