It would not be the router. you have an ip address issue.

Wait for its lamps to settle-down to a consistent pattern.

Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD

You should get output somewhat like: Default Gateway .... 192.168.123.456
if you have a connection between your router and your computer.
If you have that connection, you should be able to upload new firmware from your computer to the router.

I just set up a new linksys wrt54g without a sim card. now my home phone wont work. but when i unplug the phone from the phone port my internet wont work? do i need a sim card for my home phone to work?

More information is needed about your setup.

Do you have:

cable modem <--> router <--> computer
and:
cable-telephone-box <---> telephone

or:

DSL-modem <--- VOIP adapter --> telephone
and VOIP adapter -> WAN port on WRT54G <--> computer

Please clarify.

I have a WRT54G ver.6. Was working fine until I went fron DSL to Broadband(cable) Now system won't connect. ???????

Are you attempting to use the device as a router or a switch?  Because if when you switched to cable you got a new router with it this device may be trying to steal this devices capabilities. Im assuming there are five ports, one to plug the Internet into and another to plug in the devices you wish to connect. Try plugging the Internet Ethernet cable (directly from your cable modem) into one of the four device ports and NOT the singular Internet port.

When I connect my WRT54G to the Filter, the phone line becomes engaged, any ideas ? Mann2007

the router connects to the DSL / CABLE modem and NOT to a DSL filter.

If thats what has happened you could damage the router

you should connect as per the instructions that came with your router

eg.

Phone line > Modem > Router > Rest of network

Note there is no filter between the line and the modem !

filters are meant to go before phones and faxes etc not into a network

Configure Modem Echolife HG520s With WRT54G OR WRE54G

Not sure if I understand properly but your router should have a WAN port or an "Internet" port

your modem should be connected to it and your PC should be on any of the LAN port

Linksys WRT54G wireless router not compatible with Aztech modem?

Darvin, gotta love your ISP. Never fear......

if it isn't too much of a problem (knowing you have wireless setup done already), then do a factory reset on your router ** remember to copy the WEP Key if you have, or recall the PASS PHRASE so you won't have to reset all wireless devices ** Reset is located on back, you need a ball point pen to reach the reset switch.

Reset process: unplug, take ballpoint pen & insert into reset switch & plug unit back in. Sometimes tricky, but you should notice green light goes to yellow/orange upon resetting.

RESET or NOT - you want the Linksys set for ::

Connection Type - AUTOMATIC (for automatic discovery)
Router IP Address - 192.168.2.1

DCHP - ON, Addresses - 192.168.2.100 and allow 5-50 users
(for security, assign the number of DESKTOP + WIRELESS expected users +1, this way you don't get overrun without knowlege)

Take the cable from Aztech ETHERNET OUT to WAN on Linksys. (usually BLUE) (??) not 100% sure as I have the little silver pocket edition of the same Router. - power cycle (turn both DSL modem & Linksys off for 20 seconds. turn on DSL Modem, wait till it's about as ready as possible, turn on Linksys, should only take 20-30 seconds to power up & recognize.

VERIFY SETTINGS: access router - 192.168.2.1, goto STATUS. you should see IP Addressing, SubNet, DNS1 & DNS2 settings. If you do not, then you have no internet connection.

ALTERNATIVE,

Setup Linksys Router with COnnection Type: PPoE, you will need your ISP assigned ID & Password. Follow all other instructions properly.

If you still have problems, please contact me at 906-495-1707 or via Yahoo IM junodr@yahoo.com or through this website.

Changing from DSL to Road Runner Turbo

I'm sorry to say but you cannot bypass the modem capability of the DSL Westell Modem/router because that is really made to function as a DSL modem and a router at the same time, so the best way to make everything work here since you change from DSL to Cable internet just need to get a wireless router like a Linksys WRT54G that can make everything work again like before.....

Hooking up rounter to cox cable

hello!

-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- is the router working fine before or is it a brand new router

you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router

note:

configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work

Telephone connection

Unless you have dial up, you arent supposed to be losing any connection between the two. If you are, i would call them up and have them come out to fix it for free. That is completely rediculous.

Cannot connect with ATT modem

Connect your pc to the ATT box. If online, check the ip address of the computer. If the ip address is 192.168.1.x, then you just have to change the router ip address. The wrt54g ip is 192.168.1.1, it may be having conflict with the ATT modem. Change the wrt54g ip to 192.168.2.1

Good Luck
