There are several ways to check the memory - Go to system Settings --> About is one way. If it looks like it is more full than WMP is showing than reformat the player, b/c you have a corrupt database.

System Setting Options
Sleep
: Turns off power automatically after the preset time. Select either <Off>,
<15min>, <30min>, <60min>, <90min>, or <120min>.
Start Mode : You can set the start screen displayed when you turn on the
player. Select from <Main Menu> and <Last State>. Select <Main Menu> to
start the system with the main menu screen while <Last State> will use the last
used menu screen.
Auto Power Off : Automatically turns power off when there is no button
operation after the preset time in the pause mode. Select either <15sec>,
<30sec>, <1min>, <3min>, <5min> or <Always On>.
Default Set : Returns all settings to the default value. Select either <Yes> or
<No>. <Yes> initializes all settings to default. <No> cancels default settings.
Format : Formats the internal memory. Select either <Yes> or <No>.
Selecting <Yes> will format the internal memory and delete all fi les on the
player. Selecting <No> does not format the internal memory. Check before
formatting it.
About : Checks the fi rmware version and memory capacity.
<Firmware Version> displays the current fi rmware version.
<Used> indicates the usage, <Available> indicates the remaining capacity and
<Total> indicates the total memory capacity.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have 475 songs on my mpe player and it can hold 1000. Why is it full?

It's down to bitrates.  MP3s can be recorded in anything from 0-320 kilobytes per second...which is the amount of sound information coming at you.

The higher the bitrate, the better the sound BUT the file gets bigger.  So, you can hold loads of tunes at a lower bitrate, or fewer songs at a higher bitrate on your player.

Manufacturers typically use a fairly low bitrate (128k/sec, I believe) and reasonably short 3-minute pop songs so they can (truthfully) say in the advert that the player holds 1000 songs.  Your tunes are probably a higher bitrate and maybe longer (dance mixes, 8-minute Stairway To Heaven etc.), so you get fewer tunes on your player.

Download the firmware update from here:

Follow the instructions describing how to perform the firmware install. This will restore it to factory default state (minus all the media that was shipped with it)

I have an GPX MW1388 MP3 audio player I cant get it to take music

This player will only recognize certain file types, and certain WMA files have restrictions that will allow you to play the song on your computer, but will not allow you to transfer it to an mp3 player. Your best bet is to get a music service that will only give you songs in mp3 format - it will give you fewer headaches. Once you have downloaded the songs onto your computer, you can use Windows Media Player to transfer the songs to your GPX. The full user's manual is available from GPX's website. Good luck!

Sandisk sansa e280 will not down load songs

The Sansa player will only recognize certain file formats. The songs with a Red X are not eligible to be transferred to your player, because their DRM license does not allow transfer to certain (or any) mp3 players.

It is best to use songs that are in mp3 format only. They will give you fewer headaches.

iTunes songs will not work with this player.

Frozen screen/

Try turning it off waiting 20 seconds and turning it back on. Sometimes that helps. If it doesn't, try looking in the users manual to troubleshoot the problem. Good luck.

GPX ML648B mp3 player says it has 2GB memory (only shows 1888.59MB) but when I try to transfer songs it says there is only 70.34 MB free space available!!!!! I am only able to download 13 or so songs!!!!...

Plug it into your computer and open up widows media player. Click the synch tab and then you can look at the library in the player. It will also show you how much total memory and used memory.

Player won't play some songs - It states "No Authority" and won't play them

That generally means that the song was purchased online. Music purchased on line will sometimes not be allowed to transfer to mp3 players. That's to keep you from buying a song, putting it on your player and then transferring it to another computer. Part of the anti-piracy deal. If the songs that won't play were not purchased on line, then there may be deeper problems with your player and you may need to reformat the device.
