Question about Gateway MX3228 Notebook

GatewayW323-UI1 I am having two problem with my laptop. One is with my modem, and, the other is programs not responding. I live in a rural area, and, only have dial-up internet access. Whenever I try to connect, I get a 777 problem error: the modem or other connecting device on the remote computer is out of order. Yet, my sister's laptop has no trouble connecting (it is a different Gateway model, not sure of the product number). Also, at times, whatever program I am running will stop responding. My browser (usually Firefox) will freeze up, blink, and, then stop responding. I am at my wit's end. Help!

Was the program and modem working before ?

If so then they may have been a change in your program environment. If you do not remember what changes were made or what other programs/changes caused since it last worked -then try reverting to the earlier environment by doing a Restore to a date when you last rembember it worked.

Turn off computer, unplug modem, wait 2 minutes. plug in modem wait for all lights to come on and then reboot computer.
note if you have wireless router also, unplug that also. when powering up do modem, router, pc

a computer with a wireless internet connection still needs to be near the modem or router. If you move too far from the signal you will lose your connection. If you live in an area where there are few or no other internet users or there are no public connections then your connection is the only one that will typically work,

Yes it has Internal modem. Moreover it has wireless lan and Wired lan port.Please reply back if you found any difficulties to connect with internet

Dial up access


You need to contact an Internet Service Provider in your area who provides a dial up service. You will also need a dial up 56k modem.
The ISP can supply the setup information and maybe able to supply the modem if your computer does not have a built-in modem.

OK some of the obvious then, have you installed everything in Administrator Mode, & have ALL permissions set, and Installed in XP SP2 Compatibility Mode. is Vista (Ugh) actually dialing?

I cannot get a 3g USB modem to connect to a Sony Vaio. When the software is loaded the connect button does not change colour and does not respond to a click


First check the device manager to see if there is any conflict between the 3g USB modem and the vaio, then have the Plug & play app in add hardware search for the modem, if it doesnt find it , unplug the modem,while the vaio is running the add hardware app and force the laptop to recognize it. then after it recognizes it make sure vaio has the correct drivers to keep it "talking" to each other, and connect to the modem.
