That may be due to bad assembly, misshandling or bad components, if under warranty you should return it and have the player checked out. If a headset is plugged in and both sides work then the problem is probably the Speaker or the wiring from the headphone socket to the speaker. If there is a balance control, check it is set at the balance point first. The headset will give a balanced signal if it is...

Portable DVD PLAYER: I don't get any audio. I'm batteried-up, plugged in, volume high, remote working, picture good -- just no audio. Any suggestions:

Maybe it has a failure in the audio amplifier, if there's no sound even with headphones or the internal speakers, if there's audio only with headphones.

Shinco Portable DVD SDP-1731A - Sound not working.

I have had a couple of these with the same problem , and in 2 out of the three cases the cure was the same .. Earphone socket fault ?

Ear phone sockets are designed to dissconect the speakers on insertion but with the constant use and pulling they get on a mobile system they sometimes lock open and do not reconnect the speakers you could check that ..
The other one I had was diffrent that one the sound output chip was faulty and had to be replaced as did the speaker output capacitors , one had failed causing the chip to overheat .. hope this helps Regards Vortash

Audio on portable DVD player decreasing.

Could be a blown speaker or the amp circuitry driving the speaker is bad. One way you can get around this is to run the audio through the auxillary output of your dvd through either headphones, your car stereo through a line input, or hook up a pair of external speakers to the player.

A lot of times the quality of the audio in the built in speaker on portable DVD players is not of good quality to begin with. The above suggestions should correct it.

Audio trouble

Is the mute button on the dvd player on? Have you tried turning up the volume on the DVD player, have the speakers been working before? Have you always got headphones plugged in? Have you checked the audio setting on the DVD player?

Sound issue

Check your settings in the menu of the dvd player you can do this with or without a dvd in it. If not a setting it maybe the speaker/s are blown try putting earphones in if you get sound from them it is probably the speakers.

Portable DVD player

One simple way to check if it's the player acting up or if it's in a different mode is to switch the SOURCE toggle on the left side of the player (above the headphone jacks). If the switch is flipped, the player is set to be a monitor for a different source device (i.e. connecting a VCR or DVD player to the portable player to use the screen and speakers).

If this doesn't work, then you should take the player back to Best Buy to be looked at by a technician.
