How to fix BOOTMGR is missing" Error While Trying to Boot Windows Vista

If your Windows Vista computer has encountered the dreaded “BOOTMGR is missing” error, you aren’t alone. If the problem isn’t hardware related you can fix it with relative ease as long as you have a Windows Vista DVD handy.
If you don’t have one, you can create a Windows Vista repair disk using our guide

90d0186.png

Boot off the Windows Vista DVD and then click Next at the first prompt

92526cf.jpg

You should see a link in the lower left-hand side for “Repair your computer

5fec9c5.png
The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory. If there’s more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again

6ed08d7.png

Click the first link for “Startup Repair

a23f026.png

The installation process will repair the system, and then prompt for you to reboot

58c6ca6.png

Alternatively you could have chosen the Command Prompt option instead, and use the following command to fix the boot options only:
bootrec /fixboot

At this point you should be able to reboot your computer, remove the DVD and everything should be working. If not, then head over to our forums and ask your question there. Hi There,

Your problem has likely only 3 sources.

1. Corrupt Boot Files in Vista
2. Virus
3. Hard Drive locking up.

PLease boot into Safe Mode, download Malwarebytes Free Edition malware remover, stay in Safe Mode and run it there.

If no viruses are found for you to remove, you nedd a Vista Program Disc. Boot from the Disc and use Repair.

If no luck there, return to Safe Mode and use Sytem Restoego back to the earielst point in time in the past when you remember you puter running correctly.

Failing in all these, you likely need a new hard drive and start fresh.

Remember,

DON"T SHOOT THE MESSENGER!

Regards,

Selk

All videos are very choppy such as HULU or utube and machine seems to run slow in general . Start up and shut down seem to be slow also.

Downloaded videos can sometimes play "faster" than your Internet connection can download them, in the same way that parents can never keep enough food in the refrigerator to feed their teenagers.

Start downloading the video, and click 'pause' to let the download continue for 30 to 60 seconds, and then click 'play', to see if the video is "smoother" when the "buffered" content is being read from your local disk-drive.

If not, then the "performance" of your computer needs to be investigated.
How much RAM in your computer?
Windows 2000? XP? Vista? 7?
Is your anti-virus software working correctly?
Have you recently done a "full" virus-scan -- computer-viruses can cause your computer to slow down.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer, and then reboot.
Does the reboot go faster with _NO_ Internet connection?

My computer keeps restarting before loging in.

The fact that it does it at th same point each time would suggest a software error.

You should start in safe mode and see if you can get in that was (F8 whilst booting)

If you can get in then check for any recently installed software and remove it (esp toolbars)

While you are there run you anti-virus and any other clean up tools you have. when you are don't try again to start up the computer. If you see any error messages then take full note of them as they may well help others to help you

I recently added an hp printer/scanner to my windows vista 32 bit computer and now when i get on the internet it shuts down.

I would think that a virus or malware is more likely to be the cause of this behaviour. Download (from a different PC) install and scan the PC with SpyBot (freeware)

Halfpint1147::
What o/s [operating system] windows 98, me, xp, vista ?How much memory ?, hard disk space [all very important], Do you have a virus scanning, or firewall program? These programs block download to protect the computer.turn off the virus scanner,& firewall before download because Yahoo.com is very secure, then reboot to turn on the protection again.
hope that this works, halfpint1147
