- I have the same problem. When taking a picture in AF mode none of the little red dots light up and if the flash is on it just flickers and nothing is captured. Any idea why and how i can get it fixed??? - sselahhApr 29, 2009

- Hey, I have this same problem. Sometimes I'll be shooting in normal mode (not live-view) and the focus points will light up, but then when I press the sutter button all the way down, the photo doesn't take. Sometimes the AF doesn't work at all.I've tried replacing the battery with one fully-charged, I've made sure custom function III was not disabled, but the problem persists. Any suggestions? - stophsanz

Check if you haven't accidentaly disabled the liveview autofocus function - customer function III must not be set to 0. Use 2 for best results (focusing on sensor rather than autofocus chip). Also autofocusing in liveview is done by the * (star) button, upper right corner of the back of the body.

Hey - I was taking pictures @ my sisters wedding reception & auto function failed. MF functions were fine but were useless when trying to capture candid shots as I was messing about trying to fucus etc. & that basically killed the moment. I had changed my memory card the previous day & had a gut feeling that was the source of the problem & bingo - it was! I simply turned the camera off, popped the SDHC card out, then re inserted & hey presto - it worked. Hopefuly you'll have the same result :)

Check if the customer function III was not disabled by accident - set it to 2 (live mode) for best results. Also, autofocus in liveview mode is activated by the * (star) button (upper right corner of the back of the camera body), not the shutter release button.
