Question about Mitsubishi WD73727 73" HDTV

1 Answer

Color loss After watching the tv for a couple of hours, the screen starts to flicker with really fast images or squares or lines. Then the color gradually fades away and leaves a purple tone to every place there should be color, with the black and white areas remaining. If I shut off the set for 5 minutes, it will the work for about 15 or 20 before the same thing happens. This will all start over the next day with a 2 to 3 hour start up use. The bulb is 3 months old. Set is a 2005. Bill

Bought brand new 73 inch mitsubishi - seems to work fine just on DirecTV channel. When I switch to DVD player - after a few minutes the screen flickers and then colors switch to pink pastel/black/white - can still see the image but its like watching an Andy Warhol flick. Switch back to TV and colors still off. Turn off the TV, rest a few minutes and then back on - colors are back to normal. Any thoughts?

So, which capacitors need replacing on Mitsubishi P/N 938P019010 as this is $780-$1780 part depending on where you are going to buy it new or rebuilt? Can you describe the general area or the exact capacitor that needs replacing?

You have a bad video board. If you can find one used it is fairly easy to replace once you get into the TV itself. Your color guns could also be adding to this problem. I am not familiar with this television and its components so I dont know if you can replace one color gun at a time or if once one is shot then all three have to be replaced. That should be a start for you anyway.

After an hour of watching Tv the screen flickers and loses color, green lines come on the screen and the images become blurred/wobble. I can turn tv off for 15 mins and then it comes back fine, for another...

It could be the Digital board. It does most of the video processing before being sent to the Optical Engine. This is a expensive board and I recommend to call a professional to be sure.
Hope this helps,

Lines in screen

They are stuck pixels...

There are some that say sending strong images that change from to color to color can help unstick them, but I say only dissassembly and cleaning of the contacts (there should be 2 ribbon cables, one for top, one for side) that probably got dust in it. Call it in under warranty if at all possible.

Sony KP75HW40 unstable red. (not the usual problem)

I would suggest either the Focus block or the RED CRT drive board either one of those items could cause the symptom. A defective CRT could also, but a shorted CRT doesnt usually go back to being normal

Mitsubishi VS70707 Has developed subtle lines in picture

If they are faint white lines, they are called re-trace lines. They are caused when the current to the CRTs is too high. One way to check is to turn the brightness down. They should go away, but if the picture is too dark, you will need to turn down the "screen" control. This will take some handy work. If you are handy enough, take the grill off the front. Inside you will see a little black box, about 5 inches wide. there are 6 knobs on it, 2 for each color. One row is for focus (each) the other for screen (brightness). It is written on the part. The trick is to turn each of them down equally or risk having a slight tint of color. Really not hard at all, but requires the TV to be on to see. You shouldn't need to turn it but a fraction. Good luck.

The tv screen is moving really fast

This is your VSync. On older TVs, there is a dial you can adjust to hold the image in place. Do this only if all channels are appearing with the same vertical movement.

Missing Color.

the color wheel may spin but if you hear noise when it spins it's bad. the jumper is used when replacing one type of color wheel for a nother type. so donot remove jumper unless you've replaced the color wheel and the picture is bad. if the color wheel is good replace the DMD board. if the DMD is not available replace the optical engine.
