Hi Papers due tomorrow and the printer stopped printing black ink without giving us the "replace cartridge" message. So... we replaced the black ink cartridge, but now we get a error message E-20 "Install the ink cartridges" on the printer. The problem is that we can't get the cartridge holder to stop in the space where you can open it up. It only stops to the left, half way under the right side and we can't open the cartridge holder. PLEASE help! We are admittedly NOT Gurus or wizes with the computer stuff. Thank you!
In trying to replace an ink cartridge,I cant get the holder to stop at the correct spot. I have stopped it manually, getting a grinding sound. Can't find a better and safer way. The only time it was done correctly was upon setup after purchase. There should be some type of instructions to do this smoothly.

you do need both cartridges in and with ink or the printer will not print to prevent damage to the print heads from running dry. The printer normally uses a small amount of coloured ink to "tone" blacks but if you leave it set to Black only it won't do this and in the future you should only have to replace the black cartridge.
There is an option on the control panel to change an ink cartridge after pressing menu button, go to maintenance and go to change ink cartridge. if you are having difficulties still, get back to me. thanks for using fixya. pls rate solution if it helps. keep me posted.
I'm assuming you are using originals. I would suggest you taking the cartridges out and re-inserting them. If you are using refilled cartridges and you used the cartridges to almost empty then probably the chip may have short circuited rendering the chip useless. If you bought remanufctured cartridges I suggest you ask them for replacements. This isn't really that high tech but I hope this helps.
If you already have tried reseating all of the inks and and inks are still not recognized, Please contact Epson tech support for a replacement ink or if they find out after some diagnostics that it is the printer that is having an issue they would be replacing your printer.
