Everx Lap Top

My computer was running great and all of a sudden the screen went black. I can not get the screen to show anything or start up windows. It runs, because I can hear it. Do you think I need a new battery? It still won't come up with the a/c adapter on.

My video card went bad in Jan 2009. I was still under the one year mark. I called customer (bad)service and they had me send my computer to them. I just got it back three weeks ago (end of April). It worked fine for a couple of weeks then the video card crashed again. I have been calling 866-850-8835 for four hours. I'm reaching a fax line or it just rings for a long time until I automatically get cut off. I tried calling 510-252-8888 but get caught in a loop of recordings. I have also sent an email, but have not gotten a reply. Have they gone out of business???!!! I own three Everexes and they all have problems.

I have the same exact problem with my Everex XT5000T. It is the Nvidia 7600go video card. If you call Everex at: 1-866-850-8835They will tell you they realize there is an issue with the video card and will replace at no cost, even if it is a refurbished computer and even if its past warranty. Thats what I did today and it will be out in the mail tomorrow.

On the XT5000T with a screen saver, there's a time at which the screen goes black or "goes to sleep." Intermittently, it seems that mouse/keyboard activity does not wake it back up, as it should. In the past, the solution's been as-easy as closing and re-opening the lid for me (ie. toggling the screen's close button, underneath the hinge), and it fixes itself.

I imagine the root of the problem is actually a driver issue, but I've yet to find an update that fixes this completely... so far I've been lucky that the solution's been easy, however.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Have you upgraded the OS? At boot start tapping the F-2 key, do not wait for the Dell screen. Take a look at this forum:http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-95/dell-s-bios-startup-screen/85976.html

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Darkened screen as you describe indicates a failing inverter. You can test this easily by plugging the laptop into an external monitor, if this works ok, then the inverter needs replaced, If it does not work, the problem is with the graphics chip / motherboard

Did you make back-up disks when you first purchased the lap top and do you make regular backups of your info. If so and you dont need to save anything either first run your security backup and or a complete recovery from your disks. You may have a virus or a hardware issue. Good luck

ASUS VX2-AK008G Video cardNVIDIA GeForce 7700 gone bad after playing a video game. Can it be replaced? Will better model such as GeForce 9500 be compatible replacement model for the notebook?

I have the exact same problem! Never downloaded or did any changes to the software - it just suddenly wouldn't show anything on the screen when starting the machine. Could hear everything just fine, but the screen just went black. I connected it to an LCD flatscreen TV and there I saw Windows appearing, but there were strips/lines across the screen. The computer drive works fine - it's the graphic card. I've read many others having the exact same problem... Any solutions out there yet, anyone?

Lap top screen is black

If you are running with XP try switching the unit on and pressing F8 while the computer is booting up

This should put you into Safe Mode

If that works go to Start , Accessories, System Tools ,System Restore and if the shop did the right thing when they built it you will have the System Restore function running
Ask the machine to do a System Restore and it should give you a number of dates to restore to, pick on that is a few days before the last update and let it roll
