Without knowing if it is a PATA or SATA I'll give you a best Guess.
I just had a tech - 99a869f.gif

in the lower right corner are 4 connectors...white,yellow,black,blue. These are SATA data transfer connectors. If the dvd burner has a similar connector there should be a cable from here to the burner and a power connector from the power supply to the back of the burner like F in the picture below. Either connector F and M should come from the Power Supply.

if the burner has a connector like F it is SATA, if like M then it is IDE and a flat ribbon cable would come off the IDE connector (BLUE) under the power supply 20 pin connector next to the Ram memory modules.

How to get device manager to recognize SuperMulti DVD Burner? The player is installed (or was) and worked, but it suddenly vanished from device manager.

You should open the case and see if the power cable and sata cables are secured on the drive..... it is possible that the DVD drive control board has died. Considering there are many DVD burners out there for less than $20 the replacement should be cheap and simple.

Here's how to open and replace a CD/DVD drive from the HP site:

Please consult this article to help you to resolve this situation. (See this article for vista). (Here are additional cd/dvd articles for your system.) If you have iTune,s Hp memory disc creator, a 3rd party disc burning software, or an HP printer, see here.
If you determine that the drive is in fact defunct, here are the instructions for replacing it.
Finally, here is a link to your home support page at HP, which will help you to answer other questions should they arise.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Unable to reinstall DVD backups after HP SYSTEM RECOVERY failed

Code "purple" means you and your computer are done. It is an unrecoverable error that means you need a new system. However, I have found a couple of postings that claim to know a fix. I can not verify these methods, I do not own a HP or other type of prefab PC (custom is the only way to go). Anyway, here are the links, good luck.

Won't reconize DVD burner

Well, the CD ribon cable goes into the IDE 2 slot on the Mainboard and the furthest connector on the other end is the master, the second one closest to the board is the Slave connector. The CD drive has a jumper on the back between where the ribbon and the power connector go, on the case some where it should have a diagram showing the jumper setting to put it in as master or slave. Set it accordingly.

Same with Hard drives.

If the Hard drive has a diferent Cable like a SATA, then be sure to get a SATA as the new one.

Now the IDE cables may be bad check them for damage just to be on the safe side.

How to install new hard drive

2 choices for you. Get the external to run the game or 2. Add a larger hdd to the system as a slave drive leaving the smaller drive as the master. If you go the 2nd route just make sure you buy a compatible hdd. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.

Dvd/cd audio plug and or wire

Here is a link from HP for your motherboard:

A8N2N-LA Motherboard

Is the DVD drive a SATA drive? That is, does it have a small (approx. 3/4") connection next to the power connector or does it have an IDE 40 pin connector? If it is a SATA drive, you do not need an audio cable connection.

Hp dvd lightscribe dual layer burner problem

It could be that your drive is just getting wore out.

It could be the amount of data on your hard drive. I have noticed systems do tend to operate poorly once the hard drive get's 50% or more full. This is because windows uses part of the hard drive as memory so when the hard drive is getting full it has less memory to work with and things start to slow down and even freeze.

One slight possibility could be that the power supply has become weak and is not able to deliver the necessary power to the burner as it used to. One way to test this is to remove all devices that consume power from the power supply except for the necessary ones like the hard drive, keyboard, and mouse and see if it improves any.

If you have another computer or have a friend with a computer you can try the dvd burner in you can rule out the power supply or the rest of your system, for that matter, being a problem.
