HDD problem after SeaTools

Hello! I have a problem with Seagate 80gb IDE ST380011A. My HDD was formatting when the power was accidentally cut off. After that, it showed that it cannot be formatted. I tried SeaTools, and it worked fine and I managed to use it and format. I then placed some files inside. However, when I rebooted the computer, the scandisk showed up and scanned for index errors (i think). When I successfully entered WinXP, I found out that it was then again on the same state! (unformatted, same as before I tried SeaTools) I tried SeaTools once again, and it fails on the Short DPS. I don't think that I should repair it first again because there are files that are inside. Help please? What's wrong with the HDD?

Hello,

I understand your dilemma. There isn't anything wrong with your hard drive. When you formatted with Sea Tools, did you choose NTFS as the formatting structure?

Here is what I would do before you call Seagate (who has an excellent warranty and reputation). Enter your XP Desktop, right click My Computer, select Manage, then Disk Mangement. Right click the bar graph representing your Seagate drive in question and let XP format it for you. Reboot.

Check it again in your rebooted Desktop. If it is still showing as unformatted you do indeed have an issue to contact Seagate with

Give this utility a whirl

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23069-order,1-page,1-c,utilities/description.html#

This should help you get the data on the drive back to a safe location.

Once that is done, try to reformat again. It could be that when you lost power, the heads crashed. Of course, that is not a good thing.

Also, please let me know if this software works okay for you. It did for me, but that is not to say that it will work for everyone. Again, please let me know.

there was wrong in the set up of jumper in your 80gb hdd. Look closely to the 80gb harddrive, in between the ide cable terminal and the power supply connector you will see 8pin terminals paired together and a jumper use to short the paired terminals. It is most likely that the jumper was configure to detect your hdd as master. If the ide cable you use for the 80gb hdd was also use for the dvd/cdrom drive then it will conflict with it if both jumper setting was set to master. See the description of jumper settings in the sticker of the hdd. Position the jumper to slave.

Reboot your system again and see if the 80gb finally appear in your system. When system boot upon detection of hdd, the primary master should be 250gb while your primary/secondary slave will be read your 80gb hard disk.

Hdd power problem

Hi!

Check your HDD with HDD monitor utility to see if it's ok. You can try this one:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-disk-health-monitoring-utility.htm
If your HDD has bad SMART or power controller or smth like that - then you definitely need to replace HDD.
Also issue may be caused by your PC power supply or motherboard power controller. If HDD monitor shows that your hard drive is "alive", then try to "hang" your HDD to another power cord from your PC power supply and try to connect to other IDE/SATA port on your motherboard.

Also I'd suggest you to try your HDD on any other PC.

Seagate 750GB usb HDD asks to format, when opening by double click

The disk is either damaged or the USB interface is damaged.
1) You could try opening the external case and connect the disk to your computer directly (Using IDE/S-ATA cables)
2) Format the HD and use data recovery software/service.

HDD

I've seen a simular problem where the disk is empty but it says there is a reduced volume remaining, In my case i ran check disk (started on restart) on the drive and it found a ton of files that were lost and restored them, so this regained the lost space. If that doesn't work, try right clicking on it in my computer and formating it.
