Front panel leads Emachine model T2862

I disconnected the front panel leads from the mobo and looking for a pin-out diagram so i can reconnect them properly

    I have the same problem but with an emachines 790, not sure where the front panel leads should be connected to the main unit. Thanks.

E-machine model T2862 pin-out for the 10-pin front panel header is screen-printed on my Emachine's motherboard, but is so small and far away from the actual pin location, that it is likely being overlooked. If looking into the computer case from the side where you remove the panel, the header looks like a row of four pins with one missing at the farthest right pin location, and a row of 5 pins underneath that, with the fifth pin directly below the missing (key) pin in the row above it. Starting on the first row, you would install the 2-pin connector from the front panel labeled "Power LED" to the leftmost and 2nd from the left pins. (You may need to switch it around to get it to work as the LED is polarized. You will know as soon as the system starts to boot up if it is on properly, as this light burns constantly if the unit is on.) Then, to the right of that connection, you would connect the 2-pin connector labeled "Power Switch" to the 3rd and 4th pins from the left on the first row. (It does not matter which way around this connector plugs on, as all we are really doing is allowing the front panel button to connect these pins together to turn the system's power supply on when you press the button.) OK! Drop down to the BOTTOM row of pins below the first row. To the leftmost and 2nd from the left pins on the second row you will install the connector labeled "HDD LED". (Again, you may have to switch it around to get it to work since it is polarized. You will have to watch the system boot up and as the hard drive is accessed, you will see it blinking randomly if it is connected properly. NOTE: You will not damage anything if this or the power LED is hooked up wrong. They simply will not function. So don't fret, just switch them around.) Next, the header has room to connect a reset switch if your system has one. (Mine does not.) You would install the 2-pin connector labeled "RESET" to the 3rd and 4th pins from the left on the second row of pins. (Again, this is a connector that works fine regardless of which way around you install it, as it simply lets the reset button connect these pins to reset the system when the button is pressed.) Finally, you will notice one pin is left unused below the missing (KEY) pin. As far as I know, this pin does nothing, but is likely a ground or maybe a source for DC power as I have seen before. The unused pin above it is for manufacturers who make one connector coming from the front of the case which is pre-wired with all these functions, so the connector (usually with 10 total possible wire locations) can have that one location sealed or capped to prevent someone from installing it the wrong way around and potentially sending voltages somewhere they shouldn't be going, or causing something to not work properly.     ok well thank you for your help and i have it that way all except for the reset because my emachine w3107 does not have it. but the only thing is is i still dont have the lights on the front pannel i mean it turns on and off just fine but i dont have any lights?

What is the Series of the Unit? Most of these diagrams are available on the Manufacturers Website for just this reason, But I would need more information on the Model and Series of these computers to give you the URLs for this

There is a problem,the first thing U should do before disambled anything...take a photo first in its original conditions,event an expert still backup with photo to avoid anything wrong in future..so here i think we need a photo of your motherboard to help you..ACER really smart,they dont want us to D.I.Y its product..and they want us to send the malfuncions product ti their services centre..there is no manual / diagram of that mobo..and they also smart to hide the part number of their mobo...so what u can do now is upload a photo of your mobo to some photo hosting website..and wait somebody to look for it..thats what i can say..TQVM

I have an acer e500 tower wont boot a cable from what looks like the front panel near on switch is disconnected from motherboard and i dont know where it fits


Should be an input that says pwr or pwr sw on the motherboard. Really the power switch input is usually 2 pin and the only one on the mobo.

The motherboard is made by ECS for HP/Compaq
ECS model number is MCP61PM-HM
HP/Compaq's name is Iris 8.

There is no wiring diagram per se to give you.
I'll have to detail the wiring connections step by step for you.
This may be a little lengthy.

On the link above you are looking at a photo of your motherboard.
There is also an illustration available.
I would like you to copy, and save them both.

Using this method you will be able to enlarge them for further clarity, of the connections to the motherboard.

Right-click on the motherboard photo. Left-click on Save Image As, in the list.
In the Save Image window that comes up, you will see the heading File name:
To the right of File name: will be c01237541.

Unless you want to search for c01237541 you may wish to do this:

Put your mouse cursor after the 1 in c01237541.
Left-click twice.
Make one space with your spacebar.

Type Compaq Presario SR5501F Mobo photo.
(Mobo stands for MOtherBOard)

You want this photo to go to your My Pictures folder.
(Windows XP. Different for Vista)
At the top of the Save Image window is the heading - Save in:
In the box to the right you should see - My Pictures

If you do Not you will have to change the destination.

Left-click on the blue down arrow to the right of the box.
In the list, left-click on - My Documents, then left-click on - My Pictures.
Now go to the bottom right of the Save Image window, and left-click on Save.

In the link, scrolling down you will see the heading - Motherboard layout
Left-click on the + sign next to Motherboard layout.
Copy and save it as you did for the motherboard photo.

In the File name: box type - Compaq Presario SR5501F Mobo Illustration.

Now all you have to do is go to your My Pictures folder (Start>My Pictures), and double-click on the photo, or illustration.
Left-click on the Zoom In icon at the bottom of the window to enlarge.

Wiring Connections to the Motherboard:

A) Front Panel header: (Panel 1)

The Front Panel, is the plastic front of your computer where the Power On button, HarDDrive LED light, and Power On LED light is located.

The Front Panel header is the connections, or pins, on the motherboard, where the cables (Wires) go to from the Front Panel.

On the motherboard illustration it is marked as Panel 1.
(Down in the bottom right corner)

On your motherboard, Panel 1 (Front Panel header) is Black in color.
As you can see it is a rectangular block, and is placed vertically.
Has 2 columns of pins.
5 in the left column, 4 in the right column.

The Left column is numbered Odd.
Starting at the Top going down, Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9

The Right column is numbered Evenly.
Starting at the top going down, Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive LED light.
(HDD activity LED)
Pin 1 is for the Positive connection ( + )

Pins 5 and 7 are for the Reset switch.
Pin 7 is for the Positive connection. ( + )

Pin 9 is reserved, and may not be used.

Pins 2 and 4 are for the Message LED light. (LED = Light Emitting Diode)
Power On LED light.

Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.
There is No Pin 10.

If the cables (Wires) are not marked coming from the Front Panel, you will have to remove the Front Panel, and trace where they go.

You will be able to physically see where wires go to the Power On switch, Power On LED light, HarDDrive activity LED

I can't find where the connections of the front panel are on the motherboard or where they go?


The eMachines T2893 desktop computer uses an Inte G845GVSR mobo. (MOtherBOard)

Took 5 seconds before I saw the first page, and an additional 12 to fully download, using a medium speed DSL connection.

The Front Panel header on the mobo is shown on Page 31. (C on the illustration. J9G1 on the mobo)

The Front Panel connections are on Page 32.

Barring that you cannot download this PDF file, or do not understand the manual, I will detail the Front Panel header connections.

Orienting the motherboard so we are both looking at it the same way;

The Processor is at the top, the ram memory slots are to the right side of the mobo, and the white PCI slots are to the bottom.

There are three PCI slots. The one closest to the Processor is PCI 1.
The one closest to the edge of the mobo is PCI 3.

To the far right of PCI 3 is the Front Panel header.
It's the header located closest to the Right side of the mobo, and the bottom edge, and is directly below the
CMOS battery.

There are two rows of pins.
Four across the top, Five across the bottom.

The top row of pins are numbered Evenly.
The bottom row of pins are numbered Odd.

Starting from the Left side of the mobo, going to the right, on the Top row,

Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. (There is No 10)

Starting from the Left side of the mobo, going to the right, on the Bottom row,

Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the Harddrive Activity LED
If you have a wire with a + sign on it (Positive) it goes to Pin 1.

B) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED.
(Pin 2 to the Green LED lamp, Pin 4 to the Yellow LED lamp, if applicable with your computer)

C) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch. (If applicable)
(Pin 5 is Ground)

D) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.
(Pin 8 is Ground)

E) Pin 9 is for the +5 Volt power.

(You are following Anti-Static precautions, right?)

Hp pc m7640n won't turn on and power supply light is out


OK, this can be a hard thing to fix. Most of the time, the power supply is the first thing to go on a PC. However, when you stated that the motherboards LED came on after you unpluged the PS from the motherboard, it leads me to believe that the motherboard is the issue but the power supply might be outputting higher voltages and the motherboard might be shutting down. Since the power supply is cheaper then most motherboards, I would recommend getting a new one. Check ebay for a new power supply. It should be about $20 with shipping. If the same thing happens, then you need a new motherboard...

There should be printer words on the motherboard next to the header. Use a magnify glass to look in and see. I will look for a diagram for you.

Hi,

Pls confirm if your eMachine T2682 is using an Intel D845GVSR motherboard. If yes then this zipped pdf document is its manual. The different connection points is shown in p.14. With respect to orientation, for the switches - none, for the LEDs - there is a polarity orientation/requirement. The correct way is to use a continuity tester, determine which pins are tied to the ground and which are the anode/cathode of the LEDs. The short way is to power the unit and test plugin the LED's connectors and check which way they will light up. Just be sure to do it real quick so as not to burn them if the polarity is reversed. If it does not light up, reverse.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
