Replaced IC STK 396-120 on recomendation for 3 blinking power light code. Still remains the same problem. Covr. 18 (1.8?) V resistor glowed and burnt smell when powered up.
Thinking about sending in board to Service Manuals for repair any thoughts?

Are you psoitive that none of the pins werent bridged with solder. I am one of the repair techs at service manuals they can definately rebuild your board it actually only takes 48 hour turnaround time . I am not sure what they charge but i know its cheaper than a most shops charge for an in home estimate . Send them an email and inquire as they have someone there 24 hrs a day for customer support

Hi Thanks for using FixYa. 3 blinks issue means failed convergence (STK) ICs which needs to be replaced. To do this yourself you should require some basic knowledge about soldering-re-soldering components. To start with you’ll have to open the back of the unit and then replace the ICs (STK ICs) which are located behind the black heat sink and also check the resistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime. There arerepair kits available which includes repair instructions with the parts, if you want to do it yourself, you can buy and repair it yourself.Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance. Thanks Rylee
Hi, Power light blink 3 times shows that convergence out ICs got defective and need to be replaced. If you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can solder parts in circuit board with proper tools then replace two big black ICs, convergence out, mounted on aluminum heat sink. Or call local tech to fix it. Let me know if you have additional question. Thanks.
The 3 blinks symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-150ICs and it's associated resistor,this resistor automatically chagne value,can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more,don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit. Feel free to ask whatever the result...
click the link for sample picture guide step by step installation;
thats the error code for convergence. You will need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-110 you can get replacement ICs at the following link with free instalation instructions. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
Yes the STK 392-150 is a better quality IC. You will need to replace both of them. Also if you purchase the ICs from the link i am posting they provide free instalation instructions with pictures and also have free insatant messageing tech available which is completely free. I am one of their support techs and they are a good site heres the link if you want to check them out. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
if you can remove the rear panel assy. look for the convergence ic's they start with stk--- and you got the part number you need a source panasonic is 814 source and the number on the ic's stk 390 ----/
