Black smear of ink at end of lines

I am getting black only smears of ink at the end of each printing line all down the page. I have replaced in the ink cartridges, cleaned the heads, and wasted a lot of ink to try and resolve.

I have the same problem so I contacted Epson support and their first suggestion did not work. The second solution from them was to return it if it is still under warranty period (it isn't) or take it in for service. But they also advised that the cost may be more than a new printer so ............. I have just replaced the ink tanks and am not going to take their answer just yet. The ink has cost me far too much. If I have to buy another printer it will NOT be Epson. This should have lasted longer than two years with average use.

I've had the same problem, but I was using a thicker paper (Exhibition Fiber Paper by Epson). According to the User Guide, in the print dialog box, click "Maintenance," then "Printer and Option Information," then put a check in the box that says "thick paper." If you're not using thick paper and are having this problem, I don't have anything new to add to what has already been suggested.

    Epson Stylus Photo R1800

Hello! Wonder if there are adjustment programs or resetting tools for Epson Stylus Photo R1800 - for Mac users? And if someone knows if problem with smeary prints or overfilled waste ink pads can lead to problems with paper jams? The thing is - yesterday my printer started to mess up my prints with black stains and smear. and now it cant feed paper. The printer just tear the paper apart or just dont get the grip of it. I got the Epson Service Manual but I cant find out what to do? I would like to fix the jam problem and then find out a way to clean the waste pads.

Please load the printer with at least 10 sheets of plain paper then press the start button. This will dry or clean any ink found on the rollers.
Continue to run blank pages through the printer until no more ink is found on the paper, then attempt printing. If ink stains, streaks or smudges are still present, the printer may need service.

Finally fixed black smear problem!

My prints had the black marks mostly near the edges of the paper.

I found that the printer "head", had a wad of ink soaked (cat) hair stuck to it on the right hand bottom edge, being dragged back and forth over the paper.
I got the head to stay in place by turning off the power at my power strip
when the head was in a good spot. I used needle-nosed pliers to reach in to remove the hair. Hope this helps.

Hi

I had similar problem printing a 5.75 x 4.375" envelope on epson 1800. After a day of frustration, researched on similar problem on the internet, I finally RESOLVED the problem !!!!!

here is what you need to do:
1.make sure to do "custom" size on page setup > to make sure you have the right size you need.

2.(I am using in design), then on your printer menu, pick define by printer.

3. then go to printer > extension setting > CLICK on THICK

done ! I am overjoyed now.. i finally can print my own wedding envelope !!

Printed pages are smeared with black

Sounds like a bad toner, or possibly the scanner is dirty. If you look where it pulls the paper through it can have a small speck, but since its on the scanner tself it will put black lines all the way down the paper.
If its larger and smeared the Toner itself is probably bad and you need a new Toner Kit, should come with new rollers and a new cartridge as well.

Black ink smears everything.

you may have to clean the print head. since the jam cause the smear, and there still have some ink left on the print head.
you wouldn't get aclean copy till all of the ink trace are gone.

Smeared lines

Okay, this was the problem I posted a few days ago. It's fixed now, so in case you have the same problem with smearing, here's what the help desk from Canon suggested: Open the cover and remove the ink cartridges. There is a gray lever in front of the cartridges. Lift this lever and the printhead can be easily removed.
Our printhead had a buildup of black ink on the surface. I carefully removed this with rubbing alcohol. I let the printhead dry and replaced everything. No more smearing. Imagine a help-desk that actually helped!

Black line on back of page

It sounds like you have a black ink leak and it is smearing onto the paper when you print. I don't know any reasons for this except if you topped the black ink up yourself, and didn't re-block the hole you made. Then I guess the ink would gravity drip onto the paper tray while you weren't printing. Otherwise I would suggest changing the print head, but this might be expensive.

Dell A940 smeared printing

Our Dell AIO A940 stopped printing black ink (it went throught the motions but he paper came out blank). Finally got it to print by selecting:

PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

Maybe it will work for you! Good luck!
