Question about Jeep JX-CHR Boombox

3 Answers

Jeep boombox MODEL # WPSS-1A by tela mania, made in China. The unit is 15/20years old and never used. I puged it in and the volume is real low and dose not change with the turning of the knob. It has a unique potntiometer, which has six pins at a right angle that solder to the board. Do you have any idea where I could find a replacement??? Thank You.

Jeep radio Model WPSS-1A. I bought it new and maybe used it a couple of times. I haven't used it in about three years. Plugged it in and turned it on and radio volume is really low. So low you can barely hear it. Volume knob will not change it. Help

That was a long time ago, 2008, but as I remember I went Through KNG America and purchased a new sound board for $28.00. U will have to have a solder gun and remove the old board and solder in the new one. It totaly fixed mine works great. Here is a link, as I recall I asked to talk to tech support, give the make model # ect of the radio, explain the prob, and ask for a replacement sound or tunner board( I can not remember what they called the part) http://www.manta.com/c/mm7jbzb/kng-ameri...
In the event the link dose not work there phone # is (631) 389-5642.

PS. kng stands for Kash N Gold Ltd, if u need to do some searching.

Good luck, Hope I was of some help.

You might also try electronic component suppliers such as Digi-Key Corporation. The Panasonic EVJ-Y series of potentiometers may contain a direct replacement.

To follow up on my earlier comment, Digi-Key Corporation has a suitable replacement still available, Digi-Key Part# P2K5503-ND. It is electrically compatible, and will work like the original, but requires mechanical alterations to fit. You will need to shorten the shaft and reduce its diameter to fit the JEEP knob adapter. Lead spacing is also different and requires some careful bending. If you are a reasonably handy DIY type, its an inexpensive solution to the problem.

It probably has a dual section potentiometer, one shaft drives both sections, one for each amplifier channel, very common part., look up digikey.com, try spraying internals of pot with contact cleaner before replacing. Does anyone have a users manual?

Minimum volume way to high

There may be a low/high switch which lowers or raises the base sound level before the volume control has any effect.

Jeep boombox the volume wont go up and stays low I can here it.

First obvious question...did you check the batteries? If not put in fresh ones. Next, plug in the house connector to bypass the batteries. Does it work that way? If not, opening the case is a must. Go to the back of the volume knob and with a small alligator jumper put it between the pins to bypass the volume sweep. If it works that way, the switch needs to be replaced. Beyond that you can search for shorted wires going to the speakers.

Unit will not work on AC power but does on batteries. Power outlet is good, power cord is good. Are there any external resets on the unit.

Not unless you see something labelled so - but power supplies don't tend to work like that!
It's either power supply circuitry thats died but it may have a replaceable long life internal fuse which a workshop (repairer) can replace, and should be real cheap to do.
Otherwise, for indoor use, to save on batteries, get a universal AC to DC adaptor. I think you'll find it has a DC IN socket somewhere about it (back or sides)

Max volume is way too low

what causes that issue is that your treble and bass are probably turned all the way down. just adjust those up to max and your unit will be alot louder.

I LOST THE ANTENNA FOR JEEP WRSS 3A BOOMBOX

I have the same boombox and lost my antenna. I ended up going to my local Walmart and bought a generic rubber moulded car antenna. The studs that came with the antenna had threads and too large of a diameter so I carefully filed/ground the threads down until I acheived the correct diameter necessary for the antenna stud to slip into the antenna receptacle. It works great and looks as if it came with the radio to begin with. I hope this helped!

Volume buttons not working

if you have a cuetip and alcohol clean around the volume control it might just be stuck. Because liquid or something got on the buttons and make them stick down or stay up.

Most boomboxes use Screw on antennas (either the antenna itself is threaded or has one screw in a plate at the base). You can buy a replacement at Radioshack for about $5.
