Try different outlets. If it does not power up on any outlet, then return/exchange it through the store or the manufacturer. If it was a product ordered from overseas, and this is your first time plugging it in, it may be on the international 100v standard instead of the US 5V standard - in which case, you would need a transformer - but this is only if it is an overseas model.

Power to your house or just to the machine?
If there is no power to the machine the double check the power cord is working and plugged in correctly.
If no luck the next stop would be a Service Technician.

I went to turn on the Panasonic DVD Model DMR-ES20DEB and there was no power to the machine . I have checked the fuse and that was ok . I checked the lead and power is going to the machine , there is...

I have found a bad capacitor that opens "sometimes bulge at the top" right near the power transistor that is usually heat sink-ed. The odd time the power transistor will short causing the power supply to load down.

Message on machine constantly says "please wait". It will not turn off unless unplugged.

This machine has problems with the power supply board that can cause a continuous please wait on system check or please wait triggered by trying to dub to DVD-R. The first problem is likely to occur with the older power supply boards and the DVD dub problem on the later boards. The bad capacitor problem was on the earlier power supply boards. The following link is to the solution for this http://www.fixya.com/support/t216825-dvd_recorder_frozen_please_wait_display The later power boards have a voltage regulator problem and the fix for this is at http://www.rbjtech.net/electrical/e85/e85.htm#0 You will notice from the photos that the early and later boards look different so it's easy to see which one you have. I replaced the voltage regulator in my machine and it now works like new.
