GE spacemaker washing machine . cloths wrap around the agitator . how can i solve this problem .

Make sure that the agitator has not penetrated the neck of a shirt or the leg of an undergarment, etc.

If this a whirlpool brand washer, there are sone parts bad in the agitator it's self. These parts are called dogs and they make the agitator rachet so that the top half only goes one direction. Does this sound like what you are experiencing? If so, let me know and I can assist you further.

Improperly installed thrust bearing kit. Too many washers cause the basket to spin during agitation.

sounds like you are dealing with the same problem as me .
take off the front panel (after unplugging power) take a flash lite and look at the large pulley at the back just below the pulley is the helix check to see if they are worn .
