Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

USB Drives My USB drivers aren't working. All four of them slightly work. But they aren't working at 100%. I talk to Dell they tell me to flash my bios. That didn't work. Remove my Vista and put XP back on. That didn't work. Put Vista back on, that didn't work.

another thing you could do is try using a linux boot cd and seeing if they work then. you can get a small but functional one from here
it should be less than 100mb and just burn it onto a cd, then put it in your laptop and reboot.(if it doesn't load, go into the bios and set the cd drive as the first boot option with the hard drive as the second)

Windows 7 Cannot find drivers for Maxell 4 GB USB 360

Good day

USB Flash drives use a standard windows driver. This means that the first thing to test is to see if any other USB drives works on your dell laptop. The second thing to test is to use a different USB port. This should eliminate hardware failure. I would recommend simply toing into device manager and look for the universal serial bus controllers. Listed will be all the USB drives. You can simply uninstall all the drives and restart the computer. This will force windows to reinstall the drivers.

I have a 4G mini usb drive but the computer doesn't detect it. I tested it in a Dell printer to scan to usb and works ok. I'm running windows XP in my pc. Do you have a driver to install it or any...

Click Start
Right-mouse click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Look to see that the USB ports are correctly detected, and that their device-drivers are loaded.

Try a different USB device in your computer; if it also does not work, then you have a problem with your computer, _NOT_ with the PNY flash-drive.

Dell dimension 2400 usb not working

Your Dell has two front-panel and four back-panel USB 2.0 ports.

If NONE of the USB ports are working (and I'm figuring that you have tried other USB devices to eliminate a faulty USB device), this is usually caused by a drive letter conflict. The best way to resolve it is to remove all USB devices, then uninstall the USB controllers and hubs from Device Manager, then reboot and allow your controllers/hubs to reinstall.

If still a problem, use disk management to assign higher drive letters to the existing devices. For example, a permanently connected external hard drive and card reader can be set to V and W. Generally, newly connected flash drives will take the next available letter.

Hope this helps.

Flash drive

Hi phun2008

Did your question get answered? (I'm not sure what "no thanks" was in response to.)

Your flash drives should work fine w/ Windows XP. They should be detected by the operating system as mass storage devices - plug-n-play - w/ no need for drivers installtion, etc.

You may, however, experience detection issues w/ them on systems w/ older USB hardware. If the flash drives are USB 2.0 drives, they will not be detected on systems running USB 1.1 or earlier - regardless of the OS (operating system) installed.

On the other hand, if they are USB 1.1 flash drives, they should be detected fine on both older and newer USB ports as USB 2.0 is "backward compatible".

I hope this helps.
