PDF (Acrobat) files are a great way to make sure documents are viewed with the correct layout and fonts - even when the recipients don't have the program you used to create the documents. It's also a format that is viewable across multiple platforms. In order to create a PDF file in Windows you need to be using Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
Open the file you want to make into a PDF.
Choose File, then Print.
Use the PDFwriter option when printing from a word-processing application: Choose PDFwriter from the Name pull-down menu in the Print dialog box. Fill in the document information, then click Save.
Use Acrobat Distiller option when printing from a page layout or design program: Choose Acrobat Distiller from the Name pull-down menu in the Print dialog box. Fill in the document information, then click Save.
Afraid so. If it's possible, reinstall XP. If your system came with Vista, I'd go buy XP. Purchasing software of any kind, always look on the package to see what it's compatible with. Not a lot are compatible with Vista. If you feel Vista is amazing try another alternative. Download and install Windows 7. The Beta is free until June 1, 2010. Giving you plenty of time to save up for an OS. Just be warned, what didn't work on Vista may not work on 7.
have you upgraded from xp to vista since you installed the microsoft publisher? it sounds like your publisher is not closing the prior instance running. you can bring up the task manager and watch what is happening when you open and close instances in publisher. in task manager click on processes and watch what comes and goes as you work with publisher. then if it continues, i would reinstall you publisher all together. the consensus among the gurus is it will running but it 11 yrs old and may have issues that can;t be patched for vista.
As a work around untill we can figure this issue out. http://www.acrosoftware.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp This is a FREE PDF Print to file program.
At the top left of the page the are links to the PDF Creator and the Required GPL Ghostscript 8. The program will not function without it. Both programs work with x64 Vista. Read the website for the other benifits or the program.
