SOURCE: Cleaning the mirror?

usually near the controls there are some screws, remove, then lift aggressively without breaking. Use a eye glass cleaner from Wall mart or such. Need near lab grade alcohol. Can use DEP (home depot) glass cleaner. Be gentle use baby diaper and swab in one direction.

SOURCE: cleaning lens and mirrors

You have to remove the back cover by removing the screws.
Use a microfiber clothe and be gentle.

Picture problems

Two things to look at from rear with back off: one is the inside of the screen and or the large mirror in rear of unit--do not touch mirror.

second is the unit has a small lens (2-3 inches) the points up towards the mirror---dust or such on it will cause this--it can be cleaned with a lens cloth.

If the mirror has this (uncommon) the entire front of set would have to be removed (screen units) and that is not real easy.

If lens and mirror and screen are ok problem is INSIDE the optical unit that the lens is part of---on rare occasions that can be cleaned out with compressed air.

without seeing a photo of what it looks like this is all I can suggest.

How to replace a broken projection TV mirror.

You were moving your projection TV and drop it, breaking the mirror.Where can you get a replacement and how do you remove and replace the bad mirror safely and properly?

First be aware that the mirror is delicate and removal and replacement should be done very carefully while wearing leather gloves and safety glasses.

Go to http://www.encompass.com to locate and order your mirror. They have good prices, availability and a great search engine. Now most service manuals are also available as a free pdf download. The service manual will help find the screws needed to be removed to complete the job, infact it should have a section devoted to procedure for mirror replacement. If encompass does not have the service manual, they have most but not all, I would recommend purchasing it at http://www.servicemanuals.net for about $16.00.

Installation is straight forward. Generally you have to remove the back top cover with the mirror attached. On some units the bottom rear must be removed prior to removing the top. Requires removing alot of screws. There could also be some screws under the bezel on the front, below the screen. This varies from unit to unit and this is why the service manual is necessary for this job.

Remove the rear top section containing the mirror and lay it upside down on the floor. You should be looking at the mirror in the top rear section at this point. Remove the mirror hold in screws or clips. Again having the service manual makes this part easier. Remove the mirror being careful not to break it and cause a safety hazzard.

Install the new mirror, after cleaning with a soft cloth and a non-ammonia surface/glass cleaner such as Cinch or Windex.

While you have the unit apart you should clean the lenses and the rear of the screen.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4690955-clean_lense_screen_in_projection_tv which will walk you through the process. This should complete the job.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

How to clean the lense and screen in a projection TV.

When you replace your lamp or do work in your dlp or projection tv you should also clean the lenses and reflective surfaces to allow more light to pass through giving a sharper and brighter image.

Inspect your unit to see how the screen is attached. Most newer units have the screen attached at the bottom with screws. To access the screws you will need to remove the speaker grille. To remove the grille gently pull out on the edge of the grille at a corner until it pops loose. Continue around the perimeter until the grille is removed. Now you should be able to get to the screws.

Remove all the screws at the bottom of the screen and any other screws which obviously appear to be holding the screen on. Grasp the screen by both sides and lift it straight up. You may have to give it a tug to get it started. Once removed lay the screen on the carpet on it's front.

Using a lint free cloth, usually cloth diapers will work, and a glass cleaner with no ammonia, spray the cloth and using a circular motion clean the lenses and mirrors. Be careful when cleaning the lenses as they are plastic and will scratch. Never wipe them with a dry cloth or paper towels. Do not wipe them anymore than necessary but you may have to clean them several times if the lenses are very dirty. Clean them until you see no streaks or smears.

If your mirror is foil be very careful how much pressure you apply. If your mirror is glass cleaning will be no problem but be careful not to break it. Foil mirrors generally require several cleanings and a light touch.

Never spray any of the parts with the cleaner!!! Always spray the cloth away from the unit then wipe the parts to be cleaned in a circular pattern.

Remember to clean the rear of the screen being careful not to apply too much pressure. Do not get any liquid between the screen surfaces which are usually comprised of three parts. Less cleaner here is better.

When all surfaces shine and are free of dust, reassemble the unit and you should have a much better picture.

Thanks for using FixYa and please consider a maximum rating and testimonial. By taking the time to give a maximum rating and write a testimonial you can keep the experts helping to solve everyone's problems. Thank you.

Remove tv screen from hitachi projection tv

The entire screen unit can be removed but first remove rear cover and look at the lens--clean with a lens cloth etc----peek up inside and look at the mirror--if not dirty or smudged just clean the lens.

removing the screen with its frame can be tricky--easy to damage the screens etc. Removal usually requires front speaker grill to be removed first---most just pull off but a few are secured from rear by some screws.

With it off look to see if at bottom of screen there are a row of screws--if the entire front unit can be removed it will pull out at bottom and be snapped in place.

A better suggestion is look at rear of set above back cover--if the upper part is plastic--it with the back removed can also be removed--careful as mirror is bolted into it---that way you can clean the mirror and get at the lens for the tubes without trying to remove screen unit--some of the smaller sets this is the ONLY way to get at the mirror.

Yes a number of screws but if plastic upper rear comes out with mirror much easier and safer way.

How do i remove the screen to my Mitsubishi wd-62638

For the model indicated (WD-62638) the entire screen unit needs to be removed.

Some models had two mirrors--the usual large one in back and a tiny one in the bottom front.

1. Locate and remove front plate below screen (where you may access the lamp as most of these are taken out from front)

2. Remove all the screws ON THE BACK OF THE SET around the top and both sides.

3. Remove a plate behind the removed lower front grill and there you should find a set of wires that go to front keyboard.

4. With that done look carefully at either front side below the screen unit---one screw on either side---do not remove but just back them out.

5. 2 person job---the entire screen unit lifts up and out.

6. DO NOT try to clean the large mirror---if touched with hand or your hair it will smudge and it will show in the picture.

7. If the little mirror is there at the bottom---it can be cleaned with glass cleaner---

8. Insert the screen unit back with the two front lower screws supporting it (have someone hold it in place until you line up and install all all the rear and then the 2 front screws.

Let me know if you have questions.

CAN I CLEAN THE MIRROR ON MY HTACHI 43FDXOIB TV

With the set unplugged remove the back cover of the set.

Next remove all the screws on the entire large plastic shroud that is black in color; you will notice hand holds to lift it free and the mirror is attached to the inner side.

l usually use paper towels and glass cleaner to clean it and also clean the three large black plastic lens in front of it. It either is dirty or grimy the picture will be affected.

Carefully replace the mirror/shroud unit and put all the screws back that secure it.

Replace the back cover and see what it looks like. There is no access from the front of the set to do this.

Cob webs behind screen

The frame around the screen just pops off. Unscrew the plastic holders from the chassis frame and the screen will come off allowing you to clean everything inside easily. The "2" thin screens are easily cleaned and put back on easily also. Don't do what I did and think the screens go into the front slot of your plastic brace, they slide easily into the wider slot. You'll also be able to clean the dust from the reflector and guns with Windex. Much better picture after wards, trust me. You would be surprised how much dust may have accumulated on the lenses.
