F09 is "overflow failure" - check drain pump, pressure switch, blocked drain.
FA is the emergency shutoff switch that detects when water is pooling underneath the machine.

I had this happen to my machine on Friday. My husband fixed it last night and it cost $6.59!!!!
One of the hoses inside (i think it was one from drum to drain hose) the machine was rubbing against something which then created a tear in the hose. The hose was leaking and therefore activated the float switch and FA F9 response. The hose is a small black rubber one about 15mm in diameter. My search for a replacement hose took me to Repco where i got fuel injection hose ( which wont be getting any holes in it i assure you!!!!). I could have ordered a part but it was going to take a week and I can just imagine they would have charged thru the nose.

Hi, thanks for the post, it really saved my day. My 10 years old AWM8125 sixth sense stopped working after starting filling with water, showing F09 and FA shortly after. I followed the advice in this and another post so I checked the above mentioned hose, first, after taking out the upper cover, by blowing air in it with a 150 ml syringe - no pressure at all was building in it. Secondly, I removed the rear cover and I checked the hose. It was loose at the drum-end. I fitted it back and I tested the washing machine with a rinse programme with the drum empty, before reassemblying the covers. I worked just perfect. I reassembled it and now it's washing fine.

WHIRLPOOL WASHING MASHING I GET E1 ERROR PROBLUM

your machine is draining too slowly. When it initiates a drain cycle, the water level switch is sensing the water level is still too high after 60 seconds so the computer stops and generates this fault code.

Here are the things to check;

* Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or inked.
* Check/Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
* Check for Drain Pump Failure
. Is the drain hose to far down the stand pipe? The drain hose should only be about a foot down the stand pipe in the wall. If the hose is farther then a foot, it can create a siphon. When this happens the washer will siphon the water out as it's filling. Pretty common issue.
2. Are you using HE soap? Yes the error code F9 E1 can and will be displayed if the washer senses to many suds inside. Even if you are using HE soap, make sure you are using the appropriate amount. To much soap "HE" or not will cause this issue. Line one on HE soap is going to be plenty for just about any size load you are washing.
3. Is the drain hose kinked or clogged? If the black drain hose on the rear of the washer is kinked or clogged, then F9 E1 will be displayed. You can make a quick visual check of the drain hose for any kind of obstruction.
If the hoses are clear and you are using HE soap, then you most likely have a blocked or failed drain motor.
Unplug or disconnect power before attempting any appliance repair. The drain motor is located on the front of these washing machines. That's a plus and means the washer will not have to be pulled out. There is a small access panel on the bottom of these newer Maytag and Whirlpool washers. Three small quarter inch screws hold the panel in place.
Once the screws are removed the panel will come off. The pump filter is directly in front of you at this point. The handle can be twisted counter clock wise and then pulled out. Most likely you will find some sort of debris inside. It can be an article of clothing, lint, backing from a rug, or change. I've seen it all believe me after ten years of appliance repair nothing surprises me anymore.
If nothing is inside the drain pump filter, then the pump motor could possible be bad. Check the pump and see if it is even trying to start. If it is trying to start and the filter is clear, then the motor is most likely bad.
When the filter is removed all the remaining water inside the washer will come rushing out. Try bailing the water out of the washer and then have a bucket or a handful of towels ready to absorb the remaining water.

Hi. I have a Whirlpool 6th sense front loader 11kg washing machine (AWM 1008). After some very cold weather I now have an error code of FA. Do you know what this means and what I need to do? Thanks

Solution from a previous post i found for you.
The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin, the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.
  • Check wire harness connections between the Drive Motor/Tachometer and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check the Drive Motor
  • Check the MCU
  • Check the Wire Harness
Most of the solutions i found for this same error were very similar. If all else fails read the manual or get a new washer when possible.

The machine is not filling with water than it shows F09 and then FA on screen. Its a 6th sense and about 4 years old

Hi,

Error F09 means Overflow Condition

If the Overflow contact on the pressure switch is Closed for more than 60 seconds and Overflow condition will occur. In an Overflow condition, the Door will remain locked, and the Drain Pump will run constantly, even if PAUSE/CANCEL is pressed twice and the Display is cleared. Unplug the unit to service.

Thank You

My Whirlpool 6th sense washer displayed f09 so I left it. next day it seemed OK but does part of the wash and comes up with FA

Thank you for your response. I finally managed to contact someone at Whirlpool who advised that the error code FA indicates a component problem and may require a replacement part. Unfortunately a serviceman is required.

Awm8143 FA code

Service manual say FA is "aquastop failure- check aquastop switch", (aquastop switch is flood switch located in base of machine), however looking at the parts view of this machine, it doesn't seem to have a flood switch-odd.
F9 is an overflow problem- manual says to check pressure switch.
Both faults seem to indicate either a leak or overflow problem- remove rear panel and check base for any water, which would indicate a leak.
If OK, next step would be to remove front panel (remove wire and spring from around door seal, remove 2 screws holding door lock, remove 3 screws along base- front panel comes off by pulling down and out towards you-can be a bit tight)
Pressure switch is located just above door lock-it has the black tube going to it- remove tube and blow into switch-you should hear it click.
Also check the chamber that the other end of the tube connects to on the bottom front of tub- this chamber can get blocked up and cause overfill problems.
Please note- always disconnect from power supply before attempting any repairs. If in any doubt, best to leave for an expert.
Good luck!!

FA is the emergency shutoff switch that detects when water is pooling underneath the machine -> a leak.
"Check float switch under machine, empty any water from catchment tray, check for water leaks or oversudsing".
