Question about Sony VAIO GRT260 Notebook

5 Answers

I'm working on a Sony Vaio, with Sykpe/Webcam/etc

Seems that using all these inter active applications is slowing down the pop up from Fixya, so that when it sounds the alarm, and if the fixya page is open, then it still takes like 3 to 5 seconds to open, and then another 4 seconds to load. Wonder if it's due to my multiple applications running. Seems that the java script might be bloated a bit from the chat utility? This is an insiders question for the Experts on Fixya.

Coolguy...I've sent this note to Alex three times, of course. I'm simply putting my money where my mouth is, amigo..but thanks for the clarity..How'd you get the notice so fast, by the way, from your part of the world?

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 22, 2008

3.07 uProcessor..1 Gig of Ram..and a streamlined laptop too, as you might anticipate.

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

nope..XP...and with 4 gig of ram, it would be fast...also, I'm going to leave this open for a full 24 hours, to see how much energy we can create amongst the experts..

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

sure..it's working, just slower than all get out..and you didn't reply to how you get these premiums so quick..do you have a dedicated computer for fixya?

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

here's an interesting issue..even though this reply is listed among the coolguy answers, when it loads to the page, there's no reference to who the reply is to. maybe that's why the users get confused. The system is listing all replies from posting person(moi) in a jumble. Seems that if the replies were in some sequence, say, in alignment with the experts that posted the note, that this would work more seamlessly?

how do you set up a refresh with the browser?

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

i do have that tool..and it saves it ok...I'll do that, as a service to the team..

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

sure..only issue is that it will be an avi, not a Youtube. item..

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

Yes..slimmed down units dedicated to Fixya will do the trick..wonder how many folks are really capable of that sort of resource commitment though?

Let's find out if others can see this posting, or if once there are a few back and forth exchanges, it disappears from the posting arena.

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 23, 2008

nope..i'm on a good bandwidth connection, and it appears to be more along the lines of the number of applications running on desktop at same time.

  • Patrick Michaels
    Patrick Michaels May 24, 2008

Nope..they don't on my side. I'm expecting that you'd get a note about wanting more input..

I suppose as for getting the chats early, its the number of processes running contiguously in the background, especially TSR programs that eat up memory and CPU usage..

I noticed that if I have only fixya running, I can answer a chat call pretty quickly, as opposed to having more programs/applications running, when it tends to get a bit slower to load.

As for the browsers, I dont see much difference in load up speeds between IE and Firefox, although Opera does take a bit longer to load the chat. I wonder why?/

CoolGuy I think he wanted to experience the system from the customers point of view.

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

It seems to load lighting fast to me on my amd 6000+ 4 gig o ram and so on.

IB I'd recommend you try difrent web browsers. Which one are you useing right now?

    My IE is working well.

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

Is that a vista laptop with 1gb ram? Then I wouldn't be supriced I'm on xp myself.

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

Thats pretty much how it works here expt Mine refreshes every minute. or every 30 seconds how ever I prefer at the time.

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

Could you possibly take a few screenshots or record the customer side for us? That would be great remember I gave you that tool a while back for screen recording. It sounds a little confuseing to me would be great to get to see it.

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

Yeah that would be great IB post it on the lounge?

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

    Id suggest you try

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

heres also something that might be usefull

    http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

Hard to say what the problem really is.

Might be Slow internet connection or bad settings.

or its the slow laptop harddrive loading up the page slowly..

too many programs open? Hard to say I have alot open and it comes up in a second.

  • Ekse May 23, 2008

well I suppose with a single core 2.8Ghz laptop and 1GB of memory the amount of applications would slow it down. These new dual core pc's don't have such issues. as theres double the processing power available.

Hi,

It happens with me too.And there is nothing to do with the Java.It is the chat application itself.

Let me know your thoughts about this.By the way you could have discussed this issue with Alex in experts lounge or you should have sent him an email.

  • Priya darshan May 22, 2008

Anyways you can do one thing uninstall the previous chat software download a fresh one again and install it.I did the same thing when i faced the same issue as yours.

  • Priya darshan May 22, 2008

Nope guys..Nothing to do with the PC,Ram or any applications installed on it.Its just a 174kb software and it doesn't need a high configuration PC for this.I believe due to allot of users online it takes a while to load.

  • Priya darshan May 22, 2008

Anyways did you try reinstalling the software?

  • Priya darshan May 23, 2008

What did Alex say about this issue?

  • Priya darshan May 23, 2008

Well..i just refresh my page every 5secs and if there's any premium i answer them..yeah i use a different laptop for fixya..its a toshiba with 1gb Ram and vista..But sometimes i even use my PC which has got only 256mb RAM and xp.The speed of the chat popups in my PC is same as the one in my laptop..so there is no difference in both of them..

My web cam cant start up

Hi.

Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the issue might be with the Webcam Driver or the Application.

Hence, it would be better to re-install the Webcam Driver and the Application.

You may download the Driver and the Application from he below links:

1) Webcam Driver:

http://s02.download.sony.com/US/pc/RIDCAM-13261000-US.EXE

2) Sony Notebook Utilities:

http://s02.download.sony.com/US/pc/SOAOTH-42600000-US.EXE

Please download and install the Driver and the Application.

Once you have installed both the Applications, restart the Computer for the settings to take effect.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to contact for further assistance.

Thank you.

I have a sony vaio with built in web cam and windows 7 but i cant use the web cam . why is that?

Are you using the Sony Webcam companion? If not ou can download the application from Sony Vaio website. ( Sony Web Cam Companion ). If you are trying to use skype or any other video messaging software: Try to check if there are other video chat application running in the background of your computer. Open the system configuration utility (Windows key + R > msconfig ) then go to the Startup Tab. Uncheck all application that is related to video chat and leave the preferred video chat software active (checked). Restart the computer and viola! You can now use your webcam for video chat.

Try downloading the originally shipped Sony Visual Communication Camera Driver from here.
If you're using the Windows 7 OS, click here for the link with the steps to install the Webcam Driver for the Vaio Computer.

I have a sony vaio vgn-fs790 laptop but cant seem to use the webcam i recently bought.my laptop cannot recognise this webcam and i think i dont have any webcam driver installed, please help out, this is the...

The built-in Motion Eye Camera is designed to add video functionality to many instant Messaging or video editing Software applications (such as Windows Messenger or MovieMaker). However the configuration process and support for how to set-up these individual applications is provided by the Software manufacturer, not Sony. Please contact your Yahoo Messenger support team for assistance on how to configure their Software.

TIP: Simply turning on your Computer activates that camera, so no specific
action is required to start the video services. Please note that only one
application can access the video signal at a time. If the signal is already
in use by one application, it will not be able to be detected by a second

Follow this procedure to take still image pictures with the integrated Sony Motion Eye camera.
1. On the taskbar, click Start and then click My Computer.
2. In the My Computer window, double-click the Sony Visual Communications icon.
3. In the Sony Visual Communications window, under Camera Tasks, click Take new picture.

Follow this procedure to capture video with the integrated Sony Motion Eye camera.
1. On the taskbar, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Movie Maker.
2. In the Windows Movie Maker window, on the left side under Capture Video, click Capture from video device.

Hi s_farah07,

You can use the WebCam Companion Software installed in the Computer to capture images using the Motion Eye Camera.

To locate the Application, please click Start, All Programs, ArcSoft WebCam Companion Software and click ArcSoft WebCam Companion. This will open the Appilcation, then you can click the "Capture" option to capture the images.

If the Applications is not available in the Computer, you can download and install it from the below link.

Hi remopuccio,

You can use the Motion Eye Camera using the "WebCam Companion 2" Software installed in the Computer. To locate the Application, please click "Start", "All Programs", ArcSoft WebCam Companion 2" and "WebCam Companion 2".

If the Camera is not working with the WebCam Companion 2 Software, you may need to re-install the Camera Applications and the Drivers in the Computer to fix the issue.
