Question about Lenovo 3000 Y410 Notebook

My Lenovo 3000 Y410 shuts down without warning ALL THE TIME!!!

I recieved my laptop as a christmas gift in 2007 and it ran great for the first few months, however, one day it started shutting down without warning. It does not even say that it is shutting down, the screen just goes black and I can hear it click off. It does not matter what program is running or how long it has been on. As far as I can tell it happens completely randomly. And, NO, it does not help if it is plugged in to the charger. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? There is nothing else wrong with the computer. It always runs great up to the point of shutting down. I have recovered the system by pressing the NOVO button on several occassions, but this has done nothing but delete programs and files that I had not had the chance to back up yet. PLEASE HELP! It is beyond frustrating especially since I use this computer for school. Thank you.

I bought my Lenovo 3000 Y410 in Jan 2008 in India. It worked fine until now. But after I came to US I tried connecting it to the D-LINK (DI-624) wireless router. It used to connect to the router but would disconnect every 4-5 sec. I tried connecting to the wireless network at Starbucks and it worked flawlessly there. As a last resort I connected my laptop directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and it was working fine. Now since yesterday the laptop shuts down suddenly 2-3 min after I switch it on . Sometimes it shuts down even during the bootup. Kindly help as I need the laptop for preparing for an upcoming exam. Thanx

Could it be overheating? Try getting a can of compressed air and blow out the fan area and then let me know if that helps.

I have had the same problem with my lenovo 3000 Y400
having tried so many things, I found the problem with energycut, which is affected by some sort of worm.
You should go to regedit,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software

at the very bottom you will see something chinese characters, and when you expand you will see energycut there. If this is the case, than your laptop is affected, too.

I have tried many virus and malware removal tools, softwares, etc. could not find a permanent solution. Than I formatted my laptop (NOT with novo key, with windows xp cd), installed all the drivers, but NOT energycut. the procedure is too long, I checked every single driver, and my stress test, for the last two days, laptop does not shuts down.

ONCE MORE: Do NOT load any energy utilities or energy cut software which comes with lenovo. You will not be able to use the hotkey (though it is very useful), when you press FN say for example together with ESC you would see the indication on the screen that you disabled camera, you won't be able to use this feature again (keys function, only you do not see it on the screen), however, the solution works. I wrote the same in lenovo forum but no feedback yet.
It works fine now

Here is another cause for laptop shuts down:

If you have flash plug in for the internet explorer, some sites might leak trojan downladers to your computer which causes cpu to work excessively, get hot and system protects itself by shutting down

although not neccesarily flash plug in might have trojan downlader (check mcafee site adviser, about avg antivirus finding sgc.exe in flash player) however, it is most probably that there is a security issue with flash player. especially if you are watching online movies often. thus try this, format your harddisk and do not install flash for a while, if you got rid of the problem that is fine, if the problem persists, than there might be a hardware issue

Yes, overheating because of what is said under ashaka's comment. Check your files frequently... under C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects delete all in the folder and also C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys

Finally, always create a standard user and do not logon your computer as administrator, just use the standard account, when things get so bad, just delete this account and create a new one.

Mine have done the same after working with it on my lap for a long time. My leg closed the cooling vents and it seemed to have overheated. After allowing it to cool down, and keeping in mind not to obstruct the cooling vents, the problem dissapeared. Clean your cooling vents and mind the way you work with it.

My lenovo y410 laptop gets hot sometimes and shuts down automatically

Try to disassamble your laptop and clean the dust from it, and make sure the processor fan is working.

Computer have a mechanism to protect the processor from overheating that can damage them, soo it will shutdown automatically.

Lenovo x201, new battery, after 30-1 hour computer shuts down, no warning, not an issue when using AC power, original battery never had that issue

If this is a aftermarket battery that would explain your problem, they don't have the same specifications that the original has, and the power capacity is less, the only way to solve the problem is to replace it with a genuine rechargeable battery.

I have a lenovo laptop, 3000 G410. Recently it has a problem which it shut down by itself after I use it for 20 minutes. After the shut down, I turn it on and this time it work only 2 minutes and shut down...

This sounds like a overheating problem (a CPU thermal shutdown).
This is caused by a faulty fan or the heat-sink and fan is clogged with dust. Check the fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the faulty fan. Check the fan/heatsink assembly and remove/vacuum the dust from these components.
