Question about Lenovo 3000 Y410 Notebook
I recieved my laptop as a christmas gift in 2007 and it ran great for the first few months, however, one day it started shutting down without warning. It does not even say that it is shutting down, the screen just goes black and I can hear it click off. It does not matter what program is running or how long it has been on. As far as I can tell it happens completely randomly. And, NO, it does not help if it is plugged in to the charger. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? There is nothing else wrong with the computer. It always runs great up to the point of shutting down. I have recovered the system by pressing the NOVO button on several occassions, but this has done nothing but delete programs and files that I had not had the chance to back up yet. PLEASE HELP! It is beyond frustrating especially since I use this computer for school. Thank you.
I bought my laptop in June,2007 .It was running very well for the last 11 months and now it shuts down all on a sudden after a use of ten minutes and I can hear it click off. Please guide me to solve this problem.Second ,the battery of this computer is not charging.

Could it be overheating? Try getting a can of compressed air and blow out the fan area and then let me know if that helps.

I have had the same problem with my lenovo 3000 Y400
having tried so many things, I found the problem with energycut, which is affected by some sort of worm.
You should go to regedit,
at the very bottom you will see something chinese characters, and when you expand you will see energycut there. If this is the case, than your laptop is affected, too.
I have tried many virus and malware removal tools, softwares, etc. could not find a permanent solution. Than I formatted my laptop (NOT with novo key, with windows xp cd), installed all the drivers, but NOT energycut. the procedure is too long, I checked every single driver, and my stress test, for the last two days, laptop does not shuts down.
ONCE MORE: Do NOT load any energy utilities or energy cut software which comes with lenovo. You will not be able to use the hotkey (though it is very useful), when you press FN say for example together with ESC you would see the indication on the screen that you disabled camera, you won't be able to use this feature again (keys function, only you do not see it on the screen), however, the solution works. I wrote the same in lenovo forum but no feedback yet.
It works fine now

Mine have done the same after working with it on my lap for a long time. My leg closed the cooling vents and it seemed to have overheated. After allowing it to cool down, and keeping in mind not to obstruct the cooling vents, the problem dissapeared. Clean your cooling vents and mind the way you work with it.
