Hp 2605dn - choosing the correct paper tray

I have 2 paper trays installed, one for legal and one for letter. I'd like to set up the printer to automatically choose the correct tray according to what's being printed. Any idea how I do that?

Open up your control panel, then your printers, then open up your HP 2605dn by right clicking it and choosing the 'properties' option. Next, look for device settings and specify there what is in each tray. That should enable you to just print to the printer and have it automatically pick the right paper.

Have fun!

Hello,
You will need to go into the printer's settings and change the tray 2 paper size back to letter. This printer is an oldie and does not rely on the paper tray to tell it what size paper the tray contains. Another possibility is that If your program is sending a print job (which will over-ride the printers settings) that somehow is set up as legal, then you will need to either abort or cancel the print job on the printer or install a legal size piece of paper into tray #1 (the manual feed tray) and then press GO or CONTINUE on the printer to complete the print job!
Good Luck!

I cant get my printer HP2055 dn to print letter paper..it just goes to the legal tray (3). I also can't figure out how to get to the menu on the printer to see if the trays are set correctly.

Go to your menu and select paper handling. From there you can reset the paper settings. If paper will not pull from tray 2 you probably have worn out feed rollers.

My Lexmark T640 does not seem to recognize paper "tray 2". I want to print legal, but it only prints from tray 1. How can I get the printer to recognize and use tray 2 so I can print legal AND letter?

2 things
1st make sure the paper guides are set correctly on the trays for legal make sure it's exactly on legal or it put the tray into universal mode. (To clarfiy the guides in the back which allow you to put legal in the tray.)
2nd Go into menu and then to paper menu and adjust/ confirm the settings for tray 1 and 2. Based on your question tray 1 is letter and tray 2 is legal, so make sure both of the tray size and type are set correct.

My HP 4100N printer often automatically selects to print from tray 1 (the manual feed), when I want to print from tray 2 (the automatic feed). How do I set the default tray?

HP Laser Jet 4100 HP Not pulling paper from Tray 2
Action: The 4100 will look at tray 1 first then tray 2 If tray 1 is empty it will pull from tray 2 if the papersize matches the job otherwise back to tray 1 and ask for the paper. Your machine likely thinks the paper in tray 2 is not the size you want. For instance you have LETTER in tray2 But the machine thinks it is legal. The LJ 4100 detects the paper size in tray 2 automatically. If you print a configuration page: MENU them INFORMATION then ITEM then CONFIGURATION PAGE then SELECT. The page will print and show what size paper the machine thinks is in Tray 2 if it says LEGAL and you have LETTER you need to Check The Paper Backstop in TRAY 2. The back stop sets the length of the paper if it is not at Letter (8 1/2 x 11) the machine will not detect LETTER. Even if it just a little bit off or between positions.
If it is set at LETTER then you may have bad switches in the machine that are operated by the tray. Or the arms on the tray that operate the switches are not moving properly. You will find the arms on the rt, side of the tray and feel them change position when you move the backstop.

Hope this helps helps. Please keep us updated and remember to rate this answer. TF

Paper Available does not include legal (only letter and A4). Tried to go into the Advanced Properties - no legal available? The printer recognizes the legal tray but the laptop does not.

Try setting the paper size in the printer settings.
Click Printer and Faxes then right click on the HP Laserjet 4350 and click on Properties, then Device Settings tab and click on the down arrow and click on Tray 1 or 2 that has the Letter Paper installed and select the Letter paper size. Then click OK.
This paper tray is now configured for Letter paper.

Paper tray?

Two possible solutions;
1) Check the settings in the printer driver for the default tray. The other user could very well have changed them and set tray 1 as the default tray.
2) Check the paper size settings in the paper tray. Pull tray 2 out and check the paper guides. Make sure the paper guide in the front and left of the paper tray are set for the correct media type (letter, legal, etc.)
The printer reads the tabs in the back of the papertray to identify the paper size. If someone moved it while loading paper the printer identifies another paper size and defaults into the tray that has the size of paper required to print.
Hope this solves your problem.

Unable to get faxes to print to legal size

Hi,

here are the steps that i want you to follow inorder to use the tray for legal size.

1. On your printer itself, Press the SETUP BUTTON.
2. Scroll Down, and look for the option "Preferences", then press okay.
3. Scroll down again, then look for Tray Lock, and press okay.
4. Under Tray Lock, you will have an options there;
- Tray 1
- Tray 2.
5. If you are using the legal size paper for tray 2, then choose Tray 2 and press okay button to apply. And if you are using the Tray 1 for the legal size, you can go ahead and choose Tray 1 and press okay to apply. And this should work.

If in case you still have issues setting it up, please inform me.

thank you so much.

Tray output

You should configure TRAY 1 as Legal only.
and Tray 2 as plain letter.

Specially when you specify from what tray/paper type to print.

This can be easily configured from the Printer Properties within the Printers and Faxes section of the Control Panel.

Good luck!
