Question about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

Can't download to computer

I have a usb cable for my Nikon D70s. When I connect the cable to the computer (with camera attached) the drive does not appear in My Computer. It does appear if I use my flash drive. I downloaded some files and tried to install the PTPdriver but that did not work.

You need to go to the tools menu and change USB fro PTP (Picture transfer protocol) to MASS STORAGE. PTP is only used if controlling camera from computer.

How do you get the pics off of a Nikon S70

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Can I download my pictures with the USB cord into my new computer (laptop E series Sony)? The Memory card doesn't fit (too Large).

when you connect your camera to the computer using the usb cable supplied ,the computer will automaticaly detect the camera and the memory card, and open a dolder called dcim, your photos will be in that folder,
i suggest you buy a external card reader which is very cheap these days,as the cable method is little risky in case of breakage of camera side connector breaking off.which happens if you are not very very carful.

I just got this camera and I can't figure out how to attach the included usb cable to the camera. Do I just put in in the AV/Out slot, or does this somehow open up to a slot that is a precise fit?

The USB cable goes into the connector inside the A/V OUT cover on the bottom of the camera.

You might want to NOT use the USB connection.

Is the camera recognised by the pc as a usb 'drive'.?? If not try another cable. If another cable does not help, then the fault could be with the camera itself.
Try inserting the card in a separate card reader attached to a pc - if you can see the latest pics taken, then the camera is taking pics ok - and we are back to the transfer problem.

If you can see the pics in your 'my computer' then you can copy or move them onto your pc's hard drive. The fault then could be your Nikon transfer program. Try reloading the software as it may be corrupted on your pc..

How can i upload pictures from my nikon coolpix camera to my computer. I have the usb cord and nothing pops up on the computer, when i connect it

Hi Steel,

Open Windows Explorer and click on My Computer so it displays the drives.

When you attach your camera to the USB cable, the computer should interpret it as another hard drive being attached.

If it doesn't pop up immediately, click on View, then click refresh. It should show up then.

Best regards,
Mike

D70 doesn't appear on Mac desktop

This is easily solved.
Most probably the camera's USB connection mode is set to PTP. This is useful for certain situations such as controlling the camera from the computer (you even take photos from OS X's built in Image Transfer).
Change this to "Mass Storage" in the camera settings menu and your camera will behave just like a card reader. Next time you connect it to the computer, plug it it, then turn it on and it will appear on the desktop and in the sidebar as an attached drive.
Don't forget to eject it before disconnecting just as you would an ordinary external drive.
