First off did you get the right remote. I had this same problem and was not able to fix it because I had the wrong remote. You should have DSP mode on the remote near the select / ok button in the middle of the remote. The left and right arrows allow you to move through the different picture zoom / format settings. You will need to set yours to the 16/9 format to get it correct. I use the
RCA Universal Remote 5717P. Works great.

The smaller picture is PNP called picture and picture.It can be set in to the menu setting.Go to menu setting and search the PNP code.Try to off or diable the PNP menu setting to back the normal single picture.
If you are tuning from cable or satellite you need to change the settings in the picture menu look for options like "stretch" "autofit" etc. cycle through until desired picture is displayed, turn off widescreen setting if you can find it check the manual for options regarding this. You should call the tech support for your set. This may be a fault in the way the address processing is being performed for the display. Sometimes, depending on the model, the service rep can fix this by re-loading the firmware for the set's operation. I have seen failures in the main drive processor for the screen cause this. The solution was to change the board.
