Yes, Vista is a serious RAM-muncher. It is always good to have more RAM on the system.

However, it could also be due to fragmented files, slow startup can be due to too many files on desktop, virus, etc.

First thing I recommend is to defrag the Hard drive and registry. To defrag, click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmentation.
This may take a while depending upon the size of the HDD.

Next, do a full system scan with your anti-virus software (with latest updates). Or you can try this free online scan tool:
http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

Make sure you do not have too many TSR programs running in the background (TSR=Terminate and stay Resident, like anti-virus, etc. Basically programs that load at boot up and stay in the background, but eat up CPU usage and memory).

Finally, if that does not help, try upgrading the RAM. Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. - If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

1gb would be the minimum I would run. 2-4gb would be ideal. Vista is a memory and resource hog. Please, upgrade RAM asap! You will enjoy your computer so much more.

Hello Sir, I had 512 MB 533 MHz DDR2 RAM(Dynet). Now I have bought 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 RAM(Dynet). My system has 2 slots. In one slot, I have 512 MB RAM and in another slot, I installed 1 GB RAM that I have...

The Intel D102GGC2 uses a Dual Channel Memory Architecture meaning that both slots need to be running at the same speeds. I would suggest getting another 667 MHz RAM card and installing it along side your current one, just as I reminder this motherboard only supports 2GB RAM Max so don't get one that is above 1GB.
