Question about Televison & Video

All of a sudden our 32" LCD HDTV by Phillips has begun to make popping noises when it is on. It was fine yesterday and then the popping began to day. Turning off the TV does not help it. What can we do?

We really didn't do anything but the popping noises suddenly stopped as quickly as they came on. Perhaps the machine had a bad case of hiccups!!

Thanks for inquiring.

I have a 32 in HDTV LCD,,,used only about 20 times. Started hearing "crackling" noise. Picture is good. What could this be? The quote from the Geek Squad is $150 just to come and dx...then figure...

normaly if picture is good and audio is crackling you have a connection issue such as a bad connector cable from your devise. try replacing you cables before you call for repair.

The tv makes a popping noise, then shuts itself off

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

My W3201C 32" LCD TV made a loud popping noise when I turned it off. Now it will not turn on. No power. No LED light.

That would be your transformer popping and dieing. Usually the popping is followed by a burning smell which is a good indicator that the part is unrecoverable. The cost of the part is variable based on the make and model TV and is usually not too labor intensive to replace. If not under warranty, let the repair gut know that you know what the problem is. Then, ask them to quote the cost of the replacement part and part number. Then ask them to quote you their hourly rate and get a time estimate. Then, google the part number and see if the cost is reasonable.

Sound Problems with 32" Vizio HDTV

our brand new Vizio 32 HDTV has poor sound quality, so irritating in it's flat muffled character that I can't watch it. My electrical engineer husband as attempted to change it (he does not hear the difference between the Vizio and our two Sony...there is a BIG difference) by turning off the surround sound. But to me nothing has changed. What do you think? it sounds a little bit like an old radio or a broadcast from inside a closet. Hmmm
