Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

Hitachi DVD saga

Hi guys; thanks ahead of time for your help and attention.

Here's a short summary of my problems, followed by a full story.

Short summary:
Got unplayable disc error, flicked disc to start up, flick no longer works, drive can't read disc. Laser hops on low layers. Can launch occasionally with pressure on white magnet, but not reliably at all.

A few months ago, my previously unopened launch box 360 got the dreaded unplayable disc error while playing FIFA 08. In order to pursue fixing this problem, I opened the box, thereby voiding the warranty.

The drive seemed to be struggling to move the disc. I confirmed via the internet that simply flicking the disc would temporarily solve the problem. I ran my xbox like this for a few months (maybe one or two? It's hard to remember). As time wore on, it became harder and harder to start games. Before playing GTAIV I had to spin the disc manually for excessive periods of time before it would finally take and the drive would boot up.

Nowadays, the drive will spin readily on its own, but will not read the disc. I was able to get games running for brief periods of time (once even a few hours), but the disc would inevitably slow down and produce the ingame unreadable disc error.

I have disassembled the entire DVD drive (a hitachi) a number of times, down even to the spindle motor itself, which I cleaned and lubricated. As I stated earlier, the disc spins pretty quickly, but it won't read discs. The laser hops between inside (close to the center) layers on the disc, and sometimes even hops to the top (but rarely). When the 360 is trying to read discs, the drive alternates between fast and still fast but slightly less fast speeds (mostly an audible difference, not so much visually).

I have been able to start an original xbox game (Street Fighter Alpha Collection, my guinea pig disc) by holding the tip of a screwdriver in the hole on top of the magnet that holds the disc on, and applying a slight pressure. I have not tried to start an xbox 360 game in this manner. When this disc is running, it sounds slightly "off". This is hard to describe, but it does not sound as robust as when it was correctly running, say, GTAIV. This could be nothing, but I'm trying to relay as much of my observation as possible.

I'm looking for a diagnosis that will help me fix the problem. I'm willing to do pretty much anything, included soldering; I just need to know what to do. If you need more info, just ask. I'll be around.

Thanks!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

? How do I get your attention???

And what do you think I must feel?
I'm a volunteer, trying to help people with questions, on this site called Fixya.
You have my attention, but this site has nothing to do with any other site, like Facebook where you got this game candy crush.
And if the game does not where you payed for, it would be better to try to contact the person, or at least the firm where you bought this.
Any idea how I feel when I read your story?
Perhaps next time you want to tel someone on Facebook, you look to the URL, before you press the send button?
Thanks.

Hi,

These are quite an old hard drive and they are probably pass there due date, unfortunately the only way is to replace the faulty drive, I have had these problems and after changing to the later SATA versions I have had no problems since.

You can still buy these type of hard drives but they are getting expensive now as the newer versions are the normal fitted type and the cost for the same size can be half the price. Once they become faulty they really just need to be thrown away.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Light Engine Issue - Hitachi

ATTENTION ALL WITH THE LIGHT ENGINE ISSUE:

I called the Hitachi customer relations department (THANK YOU VIVIAN) today with the red ghost spot issue...

After getting the run around by a few customer specialist (even one who tried to tell me time and time again that he was the only superior that I could speak with)... I just kept hanging up until I got a hold of different reps over and over...

I was told the exact same thing by all of them... "We no longer replace that part/issue, and havent done so for quite some time now, however, you can buy one, and best of luck".. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...

To make a long story short... I stayed persistant and got a hold of one more rep who said the same exact thing to me as the others... Then I asked to speak to her superior, she said that would do no good... Then she put me on hold for ten minutes... And when she came back on... She had explained that they were very sorry and that Hitachi will be sending the new part to my certified Hitachi repair dealer in my area free of charge... Of course, I have to pay for the install...

IN ADDITION: I had previously had the repair shop come out and do a diagnostic on the television to confirm the issue... Which Hitachi did actually contact them to confirm that they had done so and that the expensive light engine was in fact what I needed... So be aware that one of the "certified" dealers must confirm your issue...

Long story short: THEY STILL DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES AND ARE STILL VERY AWARE OF THEM... DO NOT FALL FOR THE B.S.... I JUST TOOK THE ADVICE OF MANY FROM THIS SITE AND NOW I AM GETTING MY LAMP VERY SOON...

How do I know... The repair dealer today called me today to confirm that they were called by Hitachi and once the part comes in, they will come put and replace it...

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL, AND STAY PERSISTANT...!
