TomTom920T is locked ON and wont respond to power button

Happened after a voice install..

    the screen logo is displayed does not do anything just stays in display mode model tom tom go 910

    tom tom i have to hit the reset button to turn it off when putting back on the screen remains the same with just a picture of me on it

My TomTom go920 has problem with the power button. Battery looks full but it has a hard time to power on....I will return it next week!

First thing to do, reset:

Try power on after reset, hold power on for several seconds.

Why wont my voice comand reconise my voice?


If you can't guess why your voice recognition is not responding as is should, how can anyone else. Lots of things could make the diffference:
  • Voice change with cold or sinus...or season change
  • Poor quality mike.
  • Lost some teeth.
  • Background noise.
  • Poor or inadequate initial training.
  • Talking too fast or too slow.
  • And so on.
Try giving Voice Recogntion some more lessons so it has a better scope of your voice variations.
If that does not work, you could open a new user account and start over.

Also, you might not have it started at all...which is what it sounds like when you say: wont reconise my voice. Try rebooting (cold) and restarting you voice recognition over again. (If it's auto start, just rebooting will do the trick).

Garmin 265W After cleaning the screen with a duster--switched on, the screen will not respond to touch, I have updated software but cant use garmin as screen wont respond. cant hard reset again as screen...


Hello,

Doing a soft reset on the nuvi will usually get the nuvi up and running.
If there is a reset button on the bottom, press and hold it until the nuvi powers back on. If it does not have the reset button on the bottom, slide and hold the power switch to the left for at least 10 seconds.
Also running the Garmin WebUpdater and reloading the latest update will resolve most issues.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

Wont come on tried direct and car plug but will not come on with screen


Happened to me too, usually a sign of a completely dead battery. I had to leave it on the charger for half an hour before it would respond to the power on switch. If that doesn't work look for the reset button, usually a hole about the size of the end of a paperclip. Push it in for a couple of seconds.

I do not have any voice but do have picture. Volume is turned up.


If you are not receiving any sound on your nuvi 200 or 205 series device the first thing to check is that the sound is not muted. To ensure that your units sound is not muted please perform the following:
  1. Turn the device on
  2. Press the Volume button on the 'Where To?', 'View Map' screen
  3. Ensure the Mute box is not 'checked'
If the mute button is not 'ticked', you will need to change the voice to ensure that the preset voice is not faulty:
  1. Turn the device on
  2. Touch the Tool icon
  3. Touch Settings
  4. Touch Language
  5. Touch the language voice next to Voice
  6. Scroll through and select another appropriate voice

If changing the voice is not helping you will need to ensure that you are running the latest software which can be done by installing a program called WebUpdater. WebUpdater can be installed via the link below:

Once updated please allow the unit to reboot which will ensure the software successfully installs.

If after following all the above the final steps would be to perform a master reset:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.

  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers on. After 5-10 seconds you will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  6. Touch Yes

The device will automatically reset. Please follow the on screen prompts on the nuvi and when completed place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

It just stopped talking. No voice directions, on


Hit the menu buttom, go to settings, then go to volume and see if it is muted. Sounds like the mute or volume down button got inadvertantly hit and turned down or muted. If this does not work, turn the unit over and look under the fold up antenna for a reset button. Depress this button until the unit restarts and should reset the unit back to factory default settings and get you on your way. Good luck!!! Not speaking street names


To get your TomTom to speak street names, you will need to change the voice from a recorded voice to a computer voice. This can be done by:
  • Connect your TomTom to your computer
  • When the TomTom asks do you want to connect to the computer, choose Yes
  • Open the TomTom Home application
  • Click on the 'Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras, etc.' button
  • Click on the 'Voices' button
  • Click on the 'Computer Voices' button
You can now select a voice to install on the device.
Once you have installed a voice, change it by
  • Disconnect the TomTom from your computer
  • Turn on the TomTom
  • Touch the screen to bring up the menu
  • Touch 'Change Preferences'
  • Touch 'Voice Preferences'
  • Touch 'Change Voice'

My Tomtom 125 loops when I turn it on. It starts ok like when I first bought it--asking for language, time, date--but when it gets to selectign the voice, It stops responding. This happened after I updated...


As crazy as it sounds...try updating it again. I recently had an issue with mine (also a 125) where it locked up and took 2-3 minutes to acquire a GPS signal. Another update fixed the problem. If that doesn't work, call TomTom and let them know that the update screwed it up. A friend of mine did this after having an update corrupt her GPS and they were very accomodating.

Help Explorist 500 jammed (locked up) wont even turn off


To speed things up a bit with frozen Explorists, you can undo the battery cover and pull out the battery then replace and start again. I have had to do this many times.
