I'm replacing ram in Compaq R3200 laptop. Opened the case and found one stick. Can't find the other. Under keyboard? If so, how do I get to it?

Found my solution. Was under keyboard. Required opening laptop as far as possible, removing 3 screws from the back that hold the piece of plastic just above the keyboard. With flathead screwdriver lift the right corner of the plastic piece then, with the same screwdriver lift the top center of the plastic piece to remove the piece entirely. Unscrew the 4 screws that hold the keyboard (across the top) and lay they keyboard forward (toward you). THERE is the Ram.

I attempted to upgrade the RAM on my HP Pavilion zv5000. (the one under the keyboard) when I tried to turn it on, there is just a blank screen. Any idea what the problem is? The laptop was installed...

According to the link below you can do the upgrade. If is not working, make sure you have the memory seated correctly, then mix and match the memory and switch slots to find the problem memory. It may be incompatible with either the motherboard or the other memory sticks, or just a bad stick.

Latitude d630 caps lock on with black screen with blinking light

Your RAM is either bad or not seated properly. One RAM stick is in the bottom of the laptop (underneath the windows sticker); this one is accessible by removing one screw. The other is underneath the keyboard. To get to it, you have to pry the thin panel near the top of the keyboard with the buttons on it off. Do this with a thin screwdriver on the right side (you will see a tiny indentation in the surrounding plastic) and pry it up on that end. Use your hands to remove it the rest of the way to the left. Then unscrew the 3 screws holding the keyboard down at the top and pull the keyboard toward the monitor and up. It should come mostly free, but don't do this too hard such that the keyboard cable becomes unseated. You will be able to see the RAM chip near the touchpad.

You should make sure both RAM chips are well seated. If they are, take one out and start the computer. If the problem persists, withdraw power and change which RAM stick is in. If the problem still persists, you either have two bad sticks, two bad RAM slots, or other problems (like motherboard) developing.

Windows won't start after adding ram

Sometimes, when you add RAM, you need to tell the computer that you have, do that by going into the BIOS when you start up your computer. Or it could be a wrong ytpe of RAM! Hope one of these idias has helped you.

Cant start windows after RAM upgrade

Download or get a memory test utility that boots from some device (a floppy, flash drive or CD-ROM) that your PC can read. Run that test to confirm the installed memory is good/compatible. Loose memory modules and PC boards can be zapped just by touching the connector pins while you handle them. During removal or installation you have to frequently touch the machine's frame or wear an ESD strap before handling the module, to prevent this.

Which should I upgrade?

Upgrade the RAM much easier to do than the CPU.

CPU requires you to find a processor that will work for your laptop motherboard then you gotta open it up and remove the CPU.... TOO MUCH WORK! unless you're very comfortable in doing this.

I would recommend go to 512MB to 1G of instead 256MB.

Sounds like you have a bad Stick of ram.If you have 2 sticks remove one then try to load the operating system. If that doesnt work replace it with the other one and try to boot.If you are not sure what ram is leave a comment and I will explain. If neither work buy a new stick of ram and that should take care of your problem.Rate me if this works!GOOD LUCK!
