I'm replacing ram in Compaq R3200 laptop. Opened the case and found one stick. Can't find the other. Under keyboard? If so, how do I get to it?

Found my solution. Was under keyboard. Required opening laptop as far as possible, removing 3 screws from the back that hold the piece of plastic just above the keyboard. With flathead screwdriver lift the right corner of the plastic piece then, with the same screwdriver lift the top center of the plastic piece to remove the piece entirely. Unscrew the 4 screws that hold the keyboard (across the top) and lay they keyboard forward (toward you). THERE is the Ram.

My compaq dx2450 wont register ram and its only about 8 months old i bought direct from hp but they wont help i really need to upgrade my ram

try adding one ram stick upgrade at a time, while leaving one original in the system till it boots and recognises the increase. repeat until finished adding all the new ram. if these measures dont work, its possible you have purchased ram that is not matching to the upgradable standards of your board. its important when adding ram to insure you match the ram speed with your replacements upgrade.

I have a compaq presario cq60-215dx notebook pc, was wondering how do i go about upgrading the RAM?

I have checked the Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX Specification It Originally has 2GB Memory and supports upto 4GB RAM max. If you intend to upgrade the RAM, you can buy additional RAM and put them in you system. Here is the HP Guide to Replace RAM and How to Upgrade RAM Guide
Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX has two RAM slots for DDR-2 (533 or 667) Memory Modules. First you have to check that the RAM slot is available for additional RAM. I believe that it has two modules of 1GB each in both slots. So, you have to get two modules of RAM 2GB each to upgrade to 4GB (or one 2GB RAM module to upgrade to 3GB). Hence, it is recommended that you get 2GB replacement module for each 1GB module you have on you system from local laptop repair/ service center, which would be cost effective as existing 1GB RAM Modules would be useless for you upon upgrade.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!
Appreciate generously, if the solution could have been of any help!

When I power on my laptop there's a beep code, on my m30x-s181st

That is your memory error code.
Re-seat your ram, or restore the ram you replaced it with if this is an upgrade. If neither of those apply, you should test your ram slots by leaving your ram door opened and apply constant pressure with your fingers lightly pushing the ram stick while booting.

If you get a boot screen, then you have the infamous goal post flex.
Those little upright locking wings on each side of your ram will flex over time and allow the memory stick to float up, unseating your ram.
Those little plastic brackets holding your locks on just get tired and begin stretching and relaxing over time

When this happens, your ram LOOKS like it is seated, but it's actually floating away from the contacts. I have fixed many Dell Laptops with this problem by placing hard packing foam under the ram door to keep the memory sticks seated. Yes it's cheap, but it's also permanent.

How to replace memory stick

Flip the laptop over and you will notice a cutout in the case that is held in place by a few screws. undo the screws and take the cutout off. You will now have access to your RAM.

The RAM will be held in by 2 metal (possibly plastic) retainers, gently pry them outwards and slide the stick of RAM out. Repeat this for each stick of RAM.

One of your RAM sticks might be bad.

Hopefully you have two RAM sticks. They are located behind one of the doors under your laptop.

Try removing one of the RAM sticks & fire the PC up with just one RAM stick installed.

If it still doesn't work, try removing the second RAM stick & replace it with the RAM stick you originally removed. Then try firing it up again.

If that works, try re-installing both sticks again. The contacts may have just been dirty & needed the RAM to be re-seated.

Compaq Presario M2000 PC Notebook

The Bios on the laptop motherboard only will recognize a total of 1gig Ram. So the 256 stick would be removed and 2- 512 sticks installed.

Memory upgrade

The memory should be DDR II Ram. To find how much ram you have simply click on Start then right click on "My Computer" and click properties. Chances are you have 512 ram. It will tell you in the lower right hand side along with your processer and windows version. Once you have found out how much ram you have, turn off your computer flip it upside down and pull out the battery. Then you should see a cover with one or two screws in it that measures about 3 inch by 4 inch. Remove the screws and take the cover off. This is where your memory goes. If there is 512 memory in your computer you will either have 1 512 memory stick or 2 256 sitcks. Remember that any time you upgrade memory it is best to take out the old memory and replace with either one stick of higher ram or two of equal ram. Never mis a 512 and a 256 or 512 and 1gig ect. Take the ram stick/sticks out and bring them down to the store with you just so as to get the correct memory. Also, remember when you replace the memory, if you are just upgrading to one 1gig stick to put it in the A DIMM slot. This is the primary ram slot.
