Question about HP Officejet 7210 All-In-One InkJet Printer
How do I clean the mess of ink that is pooled in the bottom pad under where the ink cartridges are? i removed the cartridges and moved the carriage to the middle however, the pad will not come all the way out. Even if I do get the pad out how do I clean it and get it back in? Would rather not buy a new printer!
Wasn't sure whether to mark this a solution or sympathy because I have the exact same issue. The sponge is stuck on two plastic tabs that jut out, one in front of the cartridge stopper—a platform that is normally retracted but which extends if you shut the power off—and the other in the back of it. You can see them if you look carefully.
Once you get the sponge out, you can wash it in 97% alcohol or distilled water. Unfortunately, since half of the sponge is under the cartridge stopper platform, you may not be able to get it entirely out of the printer (at least I wasn't able to). Instead, I just soaked up as much ink from the well as I could with alcohol soaked paper towels—a lot of paper towels.

You shouldn't need to clean it. Just squeeze it like you would a sponge using something like a paper towel. This is a messy endeavor, be careful.
